Brittany Jackson

Illustrator Judge – Biography

Brittany Jackson

Brittany Jackson, also known as Bea, is an award-winning freelance illustrator born and raised in the “Motor City” of Detroit, Michigan.

Taken by a passion for the arts at a young age, Bea embraced her gift of drawing. She learned how to bring her vivid imagination to life in a variety of artistic styles she’s studied throughout the years prior to majoring in illustration at the College for Creative Studies. Bea loves the challenges that the arts bring, the thrill that comes with learning something new, and the satisfaction of using her gifts to help others visualize their dreams. With a strong sense of concepts and design, Bea has become well recognized for her ability to paint a picture from words, communicating ideas—hers and others—through beautiful narrative illustration. She illustrated the New York Times bestselling picture books, Parker Looks Up, about America’s First Lady, and LeBron James’s We Are Family.

She is a former grand-prize winner of the Illustrators of the Future Contest and published in L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 24. She has been a judge since 2021.

“From my first time participating in the Contest, I looked up to the judges after meeting them. I loved their work, their passion for the field, and how they were willing to give back and share their wisdom with artists like me, who at the time really needed someone to take me under their wing. They taught me how to pursue my career, how to avoid pitfalls as an artist. They made themselves available if I or any of the other artists needed it. They became an invaluable resource in my life and helped to shape my career today.

“To be in the presence of artists who had succeeded in their careers was eye-opening for me. And I remember often thinking what an honor it would be to one day stand alongside them and do the same.

“I love the arts, and I love the people in it. I understand how passionate many of them are, and if I can help in any way, as Val and Ron Lindahn have helped me, that’s more than enough reason for me to want to be a judge.” —Bea Jackson
