Hi everyone! I've been lurking on the forum for a long time now but figured it was time to finally step out and introduce myself. I'm Jack, I've been writing fiction for about three years. I'm still catching up on reading all the sci-fi and fantasy classics, but some current favorites are Neil Gaiman, Octavia Butler, and Victor LaValle. I found the contest via the online workshop, which taught me a lot and encouraged me to submit. I'm looking forward to following everyone's writing journeys!

@jacknash Hello and welcome, Jack! Smile

“Stories are the collective wisdom of everyone who has ever lived. Your job as a storyteller is not simply to entertain. Nor is it to be noticed for the way your turn a phrase. You have a very important job—one of the most important. Your job is to let people know that everyone shares their feelings—and that these feelings bind us. Your job is a healing art, and like all healers, you have a responsibility. Let people know they are not alone. You must make people understand that we are all the same.”

Welcome Stive. Not trying to be funny, but for clarity, is your name pronounced to rhyme with hive, or give?

Hi, I'm a silicon Valley refugee, retired in Virginia. I'm writing my first novella and a novel that I hope to release this year. However, after listening to @orson-scott-card, I may rethink my work. Maybe I'll learn more here and move forward!

@rw-span

Welcome, Will!

You’ll find few with more knowledge than Scott Card. I’m glad you caught that presentation. Learn your craft. It will only help you as you work on longer forms. A great way to measure how you’re doing is to submit a fresh story every quarter. As you start getting results, you can chart your progress.
