NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Hello, folks.

I'm a teenager from the Appalachian mountains. I enjoy creating whimsical worlds with both paint and pen, but since WotF is a bit harder and heavier in both fantasy and sci-fi genres, I've been working on creating stories that veer from the merely lighthearted. Mr. Wulf's book was the thing that guided me to this particular contest and the writing course offered (my research workload has skyrocketed since my earlier stories!).

I'm interested in world myth- in particular, an idiosyncratic blend of Norse and my local Cherokee legend- and like to incorporate historical/real-world elements into my stories. I much enjoy thick dialect and accents in stories (a taste garnered from Brian Jacques), which is something unfortunately that has led to at least one of my pieces being rejected!

My favourite sci-fi tale is John C. Wright's mind-blowing Golden Age Trilogy, and I hope to be able one day to imitate his approach towards epic scope and setting with a moral and philosophical base.

In illustration, I deeply admire the watercolours of Alan Lee, and Chris Dunn; and the line-art of Pauline Baynes.

I’m a novelist, chronic worldbuilder, and one of those people who can somehow spend three hours reorganizing chapters when I originally sat down to write for twenty minutes.

I mostly write science fiction and fantasy, although my stories have a habit of wandering wherever they please once the characters get involved. I’m currently working on several novels, including my Space Angels series, and I probably spend an unhealthy amount of time thinking about fictional technology, characters, and worlds that do not technically exist.

When I’m not writing, I also develop software. That eventually led me to create Coolega Writing Studio, mostly because I wanted a writing program that worked the way my brain does and had proper touch support. Apparently complaining about software long enough eventually results in writing your own. Who knew?

I genuinely enjoy talking with other writers, especially about characters, worldbuilding, editing, software, publishing, and all the strange little problems that appear somewhere between “I have a great idea” and “why is chapter seventeen doing this to me?”

I actually keep a bookmark folder full of writing forums that I check regularly, so I’m hoping to stick around, get to know everyone, offer useful feedback when I can, and probably steal a few good writing tricks along the way.

Welcome @muse-of-fire ! You have some pretty specific and well-developed influences to you - kudos in being so grounded in the genre!! I'm intrigued by your blend of Norse and Cherokee as I tend to think of them as almost polar opposite cultures (cold vs heat, sea-farer vs land) but maybe my preconceptions are wrong - either way, from diverse mixes come interesting concepts so looking forward to hearing what you do
