I think with this quarter I am going to try to have a little fun with the story. I have been so focused on learning the craft, that I lost tract of having fun while I do it. So this quarter my main goal is to enjoy it. Yes I will follow what I learned, but foremost I am going to work on enjoying the process.
I really enjoyed brainstorming using WotF class teqniques so that is what I am going to do, instead of a formal prompt. However, I do like how KYD process uses 1000 words of consciousness to narrow into heart’s desire. So I may try that after I have done research and have story ideas using WoTF brainstorming.
Im starting to develop an idea that I think I will enjoy. It doesn’t have anything to do with what originally prompted it.

I'm in a mixed attack mode now--I have a revising SHM that I'm looking at for Q2, but also working up a story that is either a Q2 alternate or a Q3 prospect, and roughed the edges off a couple of prior HM entries so that they can get winged out to other markets. Those I won't revisit for WotF, but I don't want to put them out to pasture just yet, either.
The alternate is one I am just going to enjoy working on--it's one that potentially violates a bunch of my default expectations for what makes a good WotF story, but isn't exactly a miss when you hold it up to some of the Contest's winning entries from the past, either. Should be fun to work on it...

This is one of the most amazing things about worldbuilding, in my opinion. Being able to watch as the world grows with continued exploration. Starting from the point of my initial novel idea, my own fantasy world has developed a much deeper lore the further into the past I go. I generally try to focus on enjoyment with my first draft (the thrill of getting the story out) and worry about the craft aspects more during revisions. If I get the stuff I care about down on paper first, I can use the craft aspects to refine it and make sure I'm saying what I want to say, if that makes sense.
