@karyenglish Thank you for the info. While we’re waiting, we started up a group story on Q1 discussion. Any one can add to it.

The reason people enter either contest is to get published in the book, win the cash prizes, attend the workshop, and the awards gala. It's not always possible for winners to attend, as in the case of the recent pandemic, or illness, or new kids, etc. But attending has been considered a good thing.
Can I ask, is the workshop fully paid for, flights etc? Only it'll be an expensive ride from the UK if I ever win. I'd love to, even have family over that way, but I'm just a poor wannabe bestseller.
Oh, and I don't have a passport

@pdblake Yes, all flights and hotel are covered from anywhere in the world! You only have to pay for your own food and drink, though I've heard there's enough celebratory meals that you can get by without buying any food
Congrats on the SHM!
I was quite certain that my story was the best I had ever submitted, but alas, I was wrong.
Again.

@ease You definitely need money for food, and LA is expensive. However, there is a Target across the street and they take you to a grocery store. But you cannot count on food being provided. However, it IS an amazing prize experience, unparalleled.

Bummed I came close and didn't place. Over the moon to come so close and finally make it out of Honorable Mentions.
Odd mix of emotion really.
Told them to hang onto it for now in the event they might fit it in Vol 39... is that a smart move?

“Stories are the collective wisdom of everyone who has ever lived. Your job as a storyteller is not simply to entertain. Nor is it to be noticed for the way your turn a phrase. You have a very important job—one of the most important. Your job is to let people know that everyone shares their feelings—and that these feelings bind us. Your job is a healing art, and like all healers, you have a responsibility. Let people know they are not alone. You must make people understand that we are all the same.”

@drewbikscube Congratulations! It's a positive sign indeed - the more you write, you'll see more HM, then a SHM, and up and up from there. It's an arduous process for sure, but a very fun and educational one as well. You'll get there.

So I understand F=finalist, S=semifinalist, SHM=silver honourable mention, HM=honourable mention, R=returned (not rejected), DQ=disqualified. No shorthand for winner because wow, winner. I'm still confused about RWC? Returned with comments? What is P? Any others I'm missing?

My rejection emails in the past said your story did not place, so I plan to use DNP, instead of R.

P is pending meaning the results haven't come out yet (correct me if I'm wrong). If you're still confused on RWC and maybe even DQ, the first thread under "The Contest - Quarterly Topics, and Other Items" explains all of it

Hello. Sorry the emails are still in programing land... We are adding two new categories to help give better direction, which is taking a little longer than expected.
You will all still hear from Joni soon, but my guess would be early in the new week...
Here is a link with more information about these new categories: https://writersofthefuture.com/forum/the-contest-quarterly-topics-and-other-items/new-results-categories-introducing-dq-and-rejected-with-coments/#post-45339

Nice improvement on having a certificate online order form, compared to email. This helps for people like me with email addresses that seem to go into the junk folder.
Thank you for all the hard work in updating the process.
