Writers of the Future Podcast: Author Interview with Douglas E. Richards
Welcome to the Writers & Illustrators of the Future Podcast, dedicated to aspiring writers and artists. It is not just a podcast on writing. Top professionals share tips to writing a book and their secrets to success in all aspects of the business.
Our guest is Douglas E. Richards, a multiple New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of science fiction thrillers that have sold over two million copies.
I initially read his book Seeker, which left a very refreshing view on the future of humanity.
When I asked him for the next recommendation, he suggested the newly released Unidentified, a book that opens and closes with the author participating on a large podcast.
He had me at the word podcast!
Doug is a former biotech executive and Director of biotechnology licensing. He earned a BS in microbiology from the Ohio State University, a master’s degree in genetic engineering from the University of Wisconsin—where he engineered mutant viruses now named after him—and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
Now he is an international bestselling author.
In this podcast, we cover:
- Stats of how things are getting better even though the media would want to have you believe otherwise. Facts and figures.
- Golden Age SF vs. dystopian sci-fi.
- Research for science fiction novels and how he wrote near-future SF with this latest work.
- Has he gone too far with speculation since he strives so hard to be scientifically accurate?
- What science/tech is the most dangerous physically, socially, and culturally?
- Aliens and UFOs.
- Big ideas in science. Can we eventually beat the light speed barrier?
