Hello from Singapore! I've always loved to write and sci-fi has been something that I keep coming back to over the years whether it's books or films. I've submitted to WoTF twice, in Q4 of 2022 and Q1 of 2023 with a story about a virtual world where a lady with dementia periodically goes to "recharge". Her caregiver has contemplated letting them both be permanently "Stuck" there given the difficulties of daily life with dementia. The virtual world allows them both physical prowess that far exceeds human abilities thus compensating for their losses in physical mobility, social engagement and joys in life. For some reason, I keep refining this story and feel like resubmitting it instead of a whole new one. is this a bad idea anyone?

Welcome.

I'm a rinse and repeat editor myself and find it hard to let a story drop if it doesn't do well. (In WotF terms that would be an HM or better). I have resubmitted stories before, but try to write a new one each quarter. My first HM was a resubmit of a WotF rejection.  I've also resubmitted and gone from SH to HM.

My advice is to try and write something new each quarter. If you don't have the time, then try a new tale every other quarter. The important part is to keep your mind weaving tales and learning ways to refine your story.

Keep writing and have fun.

Hi! I'm Narmada, I'm new to this forum, although I've submitted a few stories in the past 3 years.

Not much to say: I'm French, I love all kinds of litterature, especially sci-fi and fantasy, but not only, from various parts of the world and I modestly try to write stories of my own.

Oh! And I'm a "she", although I use Adam Ran as my pen name (you'll figure out why easily).

Nice to meet you! There are so many of you with impressive records!

Welcome.

I like the pen name.

Hi everyone!

I've been a forum member for a bit but never posted til today.

I primarily write fantasy and science fiction.

What else? Foodie, amateur mixologist, science geek of sorts.  West Point grad ages ago; former Military Intelligence officer; now a veterinarian. Native Californian. And -- I also design & publish knitting patterns and books.

Happy to meet everyone!

Hi everyone!

I've been a forum member for a bit but never posted til today.

Welcome.

I can relate to forums being intimidating in regards to putting yourself out there with posts, and also your writing. This is a safe place.  The people I've met here are committed to constructive criticism and very helpful.

Post away.

Also -- probably dumb question, but I searched & couldn't find an answer -- how do you make a signature work? I have stuff I put in on my profile page, but it's not showing up.

It's under My Profile and Account.  Then scroll down and there's a input box for signature.

Thx! I did that and nothing is showing in my posts. I can see it when I check my profile.  I did edit to include a size tag but that made no difference.

Hello to StephCat and everyone else:)

My name is Nina. I have submitted stories twice, but never written anything on a forum.

May I ask some questions here?

First of all, I'm from Russia, but I live in Argentina. Do submissions from Russians get reviewed or not?

Then, works for kids aren't allowed, but what if the main character is a teenager? Is that okay?

Lastly, is it alright to use contractions like "can't" in the stories, or should it be more formal ("cannot")?

I hope it's okay to post these questions here...

Sincerely, Nina

Hello. My name is Michael and I'm a SFF writer. My fiction has appeared in Daily Science Fiction and I just got an acceptance from Analog, which I'm excited about.

I'm looking for a forum of fellow writers to chat with and get to know. Hopefully I've found the place.

Welcome to the forum Nina. I didn't see your post until today.

I'm certain all submissions are reviewed regardless of location.

There are many stories involving children, read some of the anthologies for reference.

Write the way you speak. It's easier for everyone.

Good luck with your entries.

Welcome @nina_parmenova

I'd say the answer to all your questions is "yes" smiley

Submissions are judged anonymously, and I am not aware of any geographical restrictions, so I'm pretty certain your submission would be reviewed. No reason why a teenager can't be your main character, I've read a few winning entries over the years where that;s the case (the squid is my brother, from forumite @mikejackstoumbos in Vol 38 comes to mind). And I certainly hope contractions are acceptable, because all my stories are stuffed with them!

The WotF free online workshop is a great resource to check out.

Good luck with future submissions
