@marius Welcome to the Forum, Marius!
Police detective? I think you'd enjoy Steve Pantazis' winning story in Vol. 31.
Have fun soaking up the knowledge shared, and don't forget to take the WotF Online Workshop--it's free and taught by the best in the biz!
Welcome aboard!
Yup, nine years on the force. Mostly drug enforcement. It was in the Netherlands after all.
You know, this is about the 3rd time I've seen someone mention Volume 31. It’s also cheaper here than other editions somehow. I'm gonna order it, see what the fuss is all about.

V31 is my favourite! Another vote for Steve Pantazis' story. The winner by Sharon Joss is another all-time favourite of mine. I enjoyed every story, Shoemaker and WotF first-reader Kary English too. It's a great volume.

I remember the first time I heard the Rush album, Hold Your Fire. I asked my friend, whose CD it was, if it was a greatest hits album because every song was so good. Nope, he said. This is a regular album.
That's volume 31.

@patricia-a thank you! I love a warm welcome. I absolutely love this group. Just got caught up on the podcast and finished the online version of the workshop too. The story I wrote during the workshop already has a (small) market. My production has definitely increased in quality and quantity since I realized the WotF had all these tools available. Such an admirable team.
@wulfmoon As I’m looking into this, I’m finding that I’m absolutely still qualified. Which is wild. How exciting!

Thanks! Loving your beautiful country so far. I'm learning the language and almost hit a moose with my car the other day, so definitely on my way to integration.
I am submitting a story for Q4 actually. Just re-checking my English grammar for the 1000000th time and then we're good to go

Indeed! It takes some heavy-hitting sales to actually pro out. And remember that it’s when that fourth pro sale is “published” that you actually pro out. Many get stories in on the quarter before that final disqualifying story is published. Best of success!

Hello, everyone!
I'm Hunter-Kay. I'm a lady living in Montana, USA, where my neighborhood has infinitely more animals than people. We're in fire season, so the smoke is awful and the firefighters are busy, but there must be some good story waiting to spring from it. (anyone is welcome to it, haha)
I self-published my first novel this year and will have another out in a month--but now that I grasp that pretty well, I'd love to dive deeper into developing my short fiction! I've submitted to WoTF a couple times and just got my first honorable mention, so I'm going to give submitting some more goes. Guess I better get back to writing...
@hunterkay welcome

Hello everyone! My name is John, I'm thinking of going by J.P. Hollingsworth for my Pen Name, and I've decided that I finally wanted to start getting serious about becoming a professionally published author. I knew about this program from reading some of the anthologies that came out over the years, and I wanted to check in and see what things were like when it came to the learning process.
I've been a massive fan of science fiction and fantasy since I was a little boy, and one of my childhood dreams was to one day create stories that can captivate and entertain others. As of this time, I'm getting most of my storytelling practice in being a DM for my Dungeons and Dragons group.
I hope that I can learn a lot from this community, and I wish others like me the best of luck in their endeavors! It's a pleasure to meet everyone!
@jphollingsworth1995 Welcome. Glad you found WotF and the forum. This is a great way to 'start getting serious about becoming a professionally published author.' I've learned more in the last couple years on the forum, and through the people I've met in the forum, than 20+ years of trudging through books and learning on my own. Check out all the free coaching and lessons on the site.

JP Hollingsworth sounds like a great pen name. And DM'ing is a great way to learn to tell a story. I think it excites the brain and forces you to be creative on the fly. Which is what happens half the time you're dictating or typing. Well, more than half the time, I suppose.
Short stories are a great way to learn. Flash fiction is as well and there's lots of places to submit.
Grats on the HM, @hunterkay !

Welcome to the Forum, Hunter!
I think you’re smart for focusing on short stories. They teach writers how to write tight and to stay on target with their plots. This will only help novels to be more exciting, and a win in WotF will allow you to say you’re a bestselling writer when advertising your books. You also get a powerful PR team backing you for the long haul. And so much more!
Don’t forget to take the free online workshop!
Stay on target and welcome aboard! 😊

Welcome to the Forum, John!
D&D certainly uses creative thought. I used to compete in championships at TSR’s HQ in Lake Geneva, WI (Gary Gygax DMd the final round) and I was there when they released their first hardcover, The Monster Manual. We’d never have to design our own monsters again! 😄
Do take the WotF Online Workshop, it will help!

Hello, everyone! Call me Angel. I'm from the Philippines. I missed 2024's WOTF Competition, but I hope to enter the next ones, so while I wait and plot, I'll learn here.
I recently completed my undergraduate degree in Creative Writing, and I'm looking forward to learning even more about writing so I can use it in my passions and teach young writers! As I await my diploma, I'm a writing coach at an international NGO. I've been writing since I was 11 and started as a novelist, but now I focus more on short stories, poems, screenplays, and social media captions for a national youth organization I volunteer in. I mainly write historical sub-urban fantasy and alternate history, and pretty much every narrative I write almost always occurs in the same universe!
I look forward to learning and writing more with you all!
Welcome to the forum Angel. Your journey has just been supercharged. You will gain much knowledge and insightful techniques here, enjoy.

hi Angel, welcome. The forum tends to get busy right before a quaarter ends (last night) or results come out (probably first half of novemver for this quarter) but in between times it simmers gently. Doesn't mean there arent plenty of eyes on new posts or questions so post if you have one, and other than that check out old posts for accumulated wisdom, especially sticky posts!
