I'm back!!
Not a new user, but for hidden and arcane reasons my computer had stopped letting me login a few years ago. I tried debugging it a few times--no go. Even Brad tried. I gave up. But this time it worked. Yay! Thanks, Brad.
It was great to meet a bunch of you at WorldCon. That's what urged me to finally work out how to get back on the forum.
I've entered the contest more times than I'm willing to admit in public. My stats are:
Rejections: lots
HM's: even more
Semi-Finalist: 3x
Finalist: 2x
I'm working hard on my Q4, Vol 29 story. I think it's high time I won this thing.
It's nice to be back and playing with all you guys.

Welcome back, Laurie! It was great to meet you at WorldCon. If I don't run into you again before then, I'm making plans to be at ConFusion in January. I've decided it's time to reengage with the community.

Yes, the community needs more Evil I'll see you in January.
I met the ConFusion programming director at WorldCon, and he's planning on putting me on some panels. Maybe we could be on one together, entitled, "How to Not Give Up Even When the Universe Is Telling You To".

Heh. I wouldn't say no, but I would issue my standard disclaimer: "Getting me to talk is easy, it's getting me to shut up that's the problem." I love speaking with a crowd.

Well, welcome back even though I don't think we have met before.
But I couldn't get on for years either. I register but it wouldn't take my password and/or screen name. But when I tried to register again it said I was signed up. I had to get a new computer with all updated software.

Actually, I never got on. You just think you see my posts....
Sorry about that, had to be a smart aleck with my own words there.
But hmm, that line could make an interesting tale if done right. Not sure if I could but even though horror would be the obvious genre for a story, I think a non-obvious genre would be better.

Hello there! I'm one of those writers who can't stop but only just became confident enough to start submitting. My second contest, with second quarter being my first entry. I don't expect to win because it is my first, but I do expect to learn a LOT. Maybe more than I expected.
I go by Channain, everywhere and anywhere, including my graphic design website; www.channain.com. My real name is Nora Leverson, and Channain was - I thought - a name I made up for a character. Turns out it's a place name in the upper highlands of Scotland, also a clan name. I am 1/4 Scottish, so now I wonder if it wasn't genetic memory leaking out of my brain, onto the page.
I'm working on my next quarter submission. Still hoping for the best, which is really a very Scottish thing to do. I'll watch up to four episodes of any science fiction program - four minutes if it really annoys me - and I'm currently reading The Legend of Eli Monpress, anxiously awaiting the arrival of Cold Days, book 14 of The Harry Dresden Files, and patiently awaiting the next installment of Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicles.
Welcome aboard, Channain! I like your site: very clean and effective.

Hi I'm Sharon (wave)
New to the contest, submitted my first short TODAY.
Spent much of my career working in aerospace and high-tech until I started writing full time three years ago. I've have completed three novels and three shorts (shorts are a bit trickier for me).
Met a couple of terrific people who are regulars here at a writing class this month (Yoo-hoo, Tina and Kary), who encouraged me to submit. Glad I did, and I'm glad to be here.

SHARON!!
So glad you came on (and did, in fact, decide to enter). Good luck with your entry!
And also, everyone should know that Dave sends out the first 20 pages and outline of everyone's project for the group to critique. Instead of sending Sharon a crit, I sent her fan mail. I loved her story that much. It was a blast! Sharon rocks the talent. Can't wait to see you around the board.
(also for those of you who signed up for Dean's Character Voice Workshop...I think Sharon will be there. Is that right, Sharon?)
Tina
