Welcome Cheryl and Adeline! Good luck with your entries.
WELCOME CHERYL AND XYZO AND ADELINE! <------hung you a welcome banner. Hope to see you both around the forum.
I just retroactively added you to the welcome banner though my master powers of editing! Good luck in the contest and set a goal to have something in my one of the deadlines, join in on the first 450 fun if you like to get/give critiques or follow Dean W. Smith if you don't and either way you'll start improving (or teach us a thing or two).
I'll admit, I got really confused when I saw this post the first time. Who's Adeline and why are three people "both?" Obviously, two of them are the same person, but which two? *cue Twilight Zone theme*

I think if you do the math a certain way, Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle is about neither position nor momentum, as commonly stated. It's about uncertain time. You're never quite when you think you are.

That must have been what happened! (Hope I'm not scaring the new arrivals in our time warp).

Thanks for the welcome everyone!
And yes, I assumed that the Dec 30 deadline would be Q4. I guess I know what that makes me
I'd heard other writer friends like Stewart mention the contest and thought, why not check it out. It might make me write more short stories.
Thanks for all the info!

If you do, you can always go back in time again and warn them retroactively ahead of time about how crazy we all are. Don't forget to mention the brownies.

No worries! One of the great benefits of this contest is that it gives you a definite deadline to work toward, increasing productivity. Another benefit is the community. We're all here to encourage, inspire, and help each other along. You're among friends!
The quarters can be confusing, since we're always writing for the next one.
Glad to have you all! Happy writing and good luck!

I think it makes you "like every other first-time entrant."Took me about a year to figure out the quarters. The trick is to remember it's the quarter of the year *when the entries are judged*, and not when they're written. Q1 is due Dec 31st because it's judged in the first quarter of the next year.
Confusing? Yes, but them's the breaks.
So, I heard of this contest about two years ago but was too chicken to do anything about it. Had some ideas but could never get to finishing them. Finished other stories but not them, because then I'd have to submit them, right. Well, now I'm a bit more determined. I've been busy with other things, but now my schedule has cleared a little and hopefully I'll get to finishing my story and submitting for one of these upcoming quarters.
Anyway, Adeline Gale is my pen name, because I'm shy. I'm 26, two kids -- son that's four, daughter that's just about 6 months. I live in upstate New York, which is nice, but because I'm a military brat, I am dying to move as I've been in the same location for more than three years. I'm a stay at home mom, working on my senior thesis for museum studies (it's the only thing I have left to do), and I have a very strong desire to write and be published (as I imagine most here do ). Don't know what else to say, but glad to be here
Hooray, Adeline is here as well! Bet you'll win before I do--both of you.

Hi!!!!!!!!
My pen name is Shae Patterson from Lancaster, Texas. I'm 17 and this is my very first time on WotF and I am an aspiring writer! I'm a little worried about finishing my story though because its December 4th and I only have a little over a thousand words and it's only the first chapter so...yeah. But if you want to check out my work go to wattpad.com/user/MangoTigerKT.
Happy reading! And I wish everyone participating in this contest good luck!
Welcome Shae! Just keep writing and honestly, don't worry too much about the writing. I heard about this contest when I was 16, and I waited 10 years before entering. Why? I could have been practicing so many things by just submitting constantly. I can't believe I waited so long. So write the best story you can, and submit it. It's better to submit SOMETHING than nothing - something means that you've succeeded by doing the most important part, and that's writing something and submitting it!
Also, if your question in the Writing section is about the story you're writing for the contest, you'll want to go back through and edit out some of the specifics - if your story gets to the finalist stage and one of the contest judges happens across it on the forum - which some of the judges are known to browse on occasion - then you'd be disqualified.

Hi, Shae and welcome. It's my first time submitting too and I'm *mumblety-mumble* years old. I have no words yet for this entry, so you're ahead of me, at least!
Welcome, Shae! Good luck with your submission!

Hi Brad & all the rest of you!
My name is Robert Blaylock. I've submitted stories and art for all 4 quarters of 2012. I was a semifinalist in Q2 of IOTF. Just submitted my story for Q1 of 2013 today. Still working on pictures for this quarter.
If anyone's interested, I have two blogs to which I post (very infrequently, I'm afraid):
carytowncomics.blogspot.com, which is where I show off some of my artwork and muse about a bit
and
roadfrogs.wordpress.com, which is where I'll be publishing my webcomic, ROADFROGS. (Right now, I've just got an early version of my splash page and some character sketches on the site.)
If you visit either site, I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks, and good luck to all!
P.S.: Although I tend to refer to fantasy author James P Blaylock as "Cousin Jim", as far as I know we are not related (although I've seen some photos of him that make me think he may indeed be a distant cousin).
Welcome, Robert!
Congrats on submitting your Q1 (still working on mine) and good luck with Q4. (The marshmallows should start flying any day now. I would invest in an umbrella.)
I really like the artwork on your site. You do sci fi cityscapes really well. I would absolutely love to live in one of those places!
Welcome, Robert!

That's what makes time travel fun. Sometimes relaxing---you can sit back and just watch time twist around like a drunk walking down the street or an earth worm trying to tie itself in knots.
Once I went on a trip. thought I had landed in 1920 Florida but turned out to be the year 3,008 and a reenactment of life right after WWI.

Hello All -
I'm a newbie around here. Not much to say except that I subscribe to the Rules of Writing as written down by Robert Heinlein. I write in different genres, and different lengths, and I love every minute of it.
Glad to be here.
