- Welcome Ghosthack. That first entry is like leaving your infant to a babysitter for the first time. You'll never be more nervous or anxious awaiting a result in all of your life. You'll find, unfortunately, that you'll never be less nervous or anxious awaiting results for any subsequent submissions you might have to make.
heh, I might be the odd one, then..... I'm neither anxious, nor nervous. I'm as zen as a bulletproof duck..... if that's a thing.
basically, what I submitted is a short I've been working on for a while that HAPPENED to fit into the theme... and I was confident it was good enough to submit.
if It's not, well.... hopefully I get far enough to get some feedback...
As it stands, I've taken some of the (unintended and unoffered) advice from these forums, and as soon as I hit submit, I began working on a brand new story... something more specifically geared towards the crazy rocket-powered sunboat we've all hitched a ride on.
So, if the first one doesn't get me there.... eh.
Hello! My my name is Kristy. I'm from Australia. I've submitted my first two WOTF entries for Q2 and Q3.
Some of you might be thinking - "wait, hold up! I remember Ember, she had a story back in V31. She was from Australia, but her name wasn't Kristy."
To those people I say, yes, you are correct in your deductions, I am An Imposter. I've been haunting this forum since March, frustrated because I can't seem to register. (I've tried multiple email accounts). The real ember got sick of my whinging and lent me her account.
I strongly suspect that I am not the only one with this problem, btw - the last registered user was in November 2015. But enough of that, it is already raised in the troubleshooting thread and will hopefully get sorted this year sometime.
I hope it is ok that I am borrowing Ember's account, I just really wanted to join in all the twitching.

Welcome Klevang,
Good luck becoming a member of the Forum. I've read that they have their top people whipping the gremlins into shape.
Better luck in the contest,
Kent
Welcome, Kristy! Hope the registration issue gets resolved soon!

Welcome Kristy klevang.
The problem you've experienced explains the recent lack of newbies.
Good luck with the contest and getting registered as you.

Welcome, Kristy! I've been wondering about why new people hadn't been registering, actually. This explains a lot.
If you are in difficulties with a book, try the element of surprise: attack it at an hour when it isn't expecting it. ~ H.G. Wells

Hello Kristy, Sorry to hear about your registration issues. I spent the better part of a morning (a week or so ago) trying to figure out avatars. But I don't recall troubles with registration, so it must be a recent phenomenon. I have an entry in 2016 quarter 3 after taking a 2 year break. So you've already managed as many entries as I have. Short stories are way different from novel writing and to me a lot trickier. I did read David Farland's Million Dollar Outlines which is quite genius. Anyway, happy twitching!

So far I've been collecting rejections... Hoping that will change!
Welcome Kristy. This forum is an exclusive place, harder to get into than Fight Club, but you've proven yourself with your out of the box thinking and never say die attitude (seriously, I hope they fix this issue soon). Best of luck with your entries.
Thanks for the welcome everyone. I must admit that I am relieved not to have been instantly kicked out for identity fraud.

Hi All.
Thought I'd reintroduce myself. I was a member a few years back and then got distracted by life and didn't do much writing for a few years. Anyway, I've finally started writing again. Rediscovering the angst I put myself through! After quite a few rejections, a short piece of mine made it to the final round at Daily Science Fiction...although they then passed on it, but it was great validation. Maybe I'm heading in the right direction.
I mainly write fantasy. Was a BETA for Stephen Donaldson for ten years while he wrote The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. That was an invaluable experience. Taught me a lot about writing.
Entered the last quarter of the WotF competition (Q3). Not sure how my story will go but at least I've entered! Trying to get something written for this quarter but not sure if that's going to happen. Loving the bubbling excitement for those who entered Q2.
As a heads up: it took me a long time to remember my login for this discussion board. I tried to open a new account but never received a validation email. So I tried again (using a different email account) and same thing, no validation email. I then tried using the link where it says "contact the board administrator" and that didn't work. So I think something might be broken. [Edit: oh, I see Kristy had the same problem. And "hi" Kristy. I'm from Oz as well]
Happy writing, everyone!
Welcome back RHB. I wasn't on the forum in 2010 but I'm here now.
I've read some of the Thomas Covenant books in the past, but it's been a while.

Welcome back, RHB!
I was gone for a few years (three) as well. Feels good to be back. Life swept me away for a while. Took some unexpected turns, and wrote a few novels. Trying to get back into the swing of short stories again and making a more concerted effort to get them published.
Good luck to you in the quarters to come!
This forum needs more dancing bananas. There you go, Rebecca!

That was me being silly. Rebecca Birch loves the dancing bananas so I put them in there for her but this user is not Rebecca as far as I know.

Hi RHB! It's nice to see another Aussie on the boards. I think there might be a few others floating around the place, but I'm not sure who they are exactly.
That activation issue is frustrating, isn't it? If it doesn't get fixed soon, all the existing members will win or pro out and there will be no forum left!

Thanks for the welcome!
No, I'm not Rebecca...but I do have a thing for dancing bananas.
Although I think I sway more towards this
That said, one can never get enough of a banana riding a lama!
Looking forward to getting to know people here and participating in twitching and the like.

Again, thanks for the welcome.
Storysinger, I just saw you have read some Donaldson. I worked on The Last Chronicles. As I said, an invaluable experience. He read my Q3 story and gave me a few suggestions which helped. Not sure that my Q3 story is really going to be Dave F's "thing" but...well...gotta be in it to win it.
Hi,
I'm Crey Gold and I'm super excited to be here! I've been trying to register for these forums for almost a year now and thanks to Brad R. Torgersen, I was finally able to! I'm currently working on an epic science fiction novel, but I will be sure to pull myself away from the behemoth to submit every quarter until I'm no longer eligible. Good luck to everyone and I look forward to diving into the discussion!
Cheers,
Crey Gold
Hello all! New to the board, though I have subbed to WOTF a couple of times. I'm currently active on the SFWorld board, and I came across this contest almost by accident. Looking forward to success!
Hello there,
Because of the registration bug with the old forum I feel like I've been lurking around here forever. And now, finally, I get to register, post, and join the madness of Thursdays' twitch-a-thons. But first, here's a brief intro:
My name's Rui. I come from Portugal and I like to write mostly sci-fi and I'll occasionaly dabble in fantasy. I hope to make some friends here since, apparentely, even just being a wannabe writer is kinda lonely.
PS- I'm waiting for results for my Q1 entry and already submitted for Q2. Now's time to worry about Q3. Amiright?

Hello! Like several others, I've been lurking for a while, unable to register until now. Wohoo, sigh-ups are working again!
I'm Hannah, and I'm from the UK. I like reading and writing sci fi (and occasionally fantasy), especially Orson Scott Card and Ursula K. Le Guin, and am pretty new to the contest. I entered for Q1 (still waiting for results), and am scrambling to finish my Q2 entry before the deadline.
Nice to see some familiar faces from Hatrack!
Welcome, Crey Gold, Jarebcollins, Rui and hlreinhold! It's so nice to have new users on here again
Yay!
Welcome, new folks.
It's always nice to meet people here first, before we see you on stage.

Good morning all.
My name is Jon Ficke, and like the others, I've been lurking for a while and the recent update got me in. I feel so legit. I got an HM on my first sub here, then followed that up with a couple Rs, so I've got a lot to figure out.
