Hm... I'm sorry, sir. I've been really trying to find this fansize contest, but I haven't been able to track anything down. Do you know what kind of fanzine it was? Like, was it themed around anything like a specific genre or fandom? Was it a mixture of anything (horror+fantasy, sci-fi+mystery, etc.)? Because no searches I've done have turned up anything. Apparently, fanzine contests are pretty tricky. They tend to poof very fast, with sometimes tiny entry windows. If this was a few months ago...there's a good chance it's not around anymore. If it was something as big, or nearly so, as IotF I don't think it'd be this hard to track down.
Are you certain it was from a fanzine? Are there any more identifying details you might remember?
@dagnir Yes, I'm absolutely certain that I saw it in a fanzine. I can't remember the name of the 'zine but I am completely sure that I saw it. It was listed right up next to another ad for tge IOTF on the same page and it was a fanzine of the many that the N3F/ National Fantasy Federation produces often. I just can't remember which one. I remember thinking how "weird" it was that both contests were listed together. And that's what stuck to me the most about it. I wanted to try my luck with it, since the IOTF hasnt been good for me. Yes, I have about 7 HM, 1 Semi-finalist and 1 Finalist from 2009 - but that's IT.
@jose77sanchez Alright, I'll try again. See if I can find anything. I remember you from another thread, posting about how you've been entering the IOTF contest for years and had no wins. I won't pretend to know how you feel, since this is my first time entering any sort of contest...ever. But I completely understand wanting to try somewhere else. That's why I thought to help you find this fanzine contest. I haven't been able to turn up anything so far, but I'll keep trying! If I do finally manage to locate it, I'll PM you! Were you interested in any other type of illustrators' contest? I can try to find something else, if the fanzine one doesn't turn up.
If you manage to remember any other details about the contest, however minor, please let me know, as that'll help me narrow the search. Like, if it had a theme or was targeted towards a specific genre (or genres), things like that.
Hi there AJ Dagnir !
Thanks so much for taking a continued interest in finding out about the mystery art contest ! I know that I read about it because it came out next to another mention for the IOTF and I found this to be a bit strange but jumped on the other one right away. Unfortunately, I somehow lost contact with the zine-I'm pretty sure that it was sent to me electronically. so in other words it was listed in one of the many fanzines that the N3F produces online as an e-zine-but I can't seem to remember just which one ? They produce A LOT of them monthly. I even asked the president and others INCLUDING another prevalent artist in the club (N3F) or National Fantasy Fan Federation, and they had NO idea what I was talking about.
And, YES I'm interested in any other Sci-Fi/Fantasy art contests that you might find ! Anything to get out of the rut I've been locked in with the failed IOTF would be really good for me. It will heal me soon.
Take care my friend and Happy New Year btw
Jose Sanchez
Hey! No problem happy to help.
I haven't been able to find anything on this fanzine contest (and I have been trying). However, I did find some other art contests that either focus on or welcome fantasy/sci-fi submissions.
They are:
1. Dream Foundry Emerging Artists Contest - no submission fee as far as I can tell.
2. Infected by Art (or IBA) - There was no technical submission fee I could find, but it says it costs $12 per image uploaded, or something like that.
3. Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art - $20 per image
4. ArtStation Challenges - not annual but apparently recurs fairly often.
5. World Fantasy Convention Art Show - I think this is an in-person thing. Not sure if that's something you'd wanna do, but thought I'd include it anyway.
Not sure where you're from, but there's also a bunch of regional type art contests like Boskone, Arisia, DragonCon, Norwescon, etc. The first four I listed seem to be your best bet for online contests. And they all seem pretty respected. I hope this helps!
Thank you so much ! I truly appreciate all your hard work into this. I will definitely be contacting these contests soon !
Take care my friend,
Later,
Jose

As a writer, not an artist (dare to dream!) this post on its face has no impact to me - but I wanted to comment anyway as this post captures the spirit of the forum - coming together to help each other! Thanks for putting in so much effort into helping others here
