Well, I won't tempt a lightning bolt and claim I could 'do better' than Megan Fox in a trailer, per se ... :?

But someone asked who Megan Fox is (other than being one saucer-abduction away from becoming the next Mrs. Soulmirror on a distant moon), and here's a trailer for her upcoming flick JENNIFER'S BODY ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJULbZ0ipoo
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0dq3ToOBwM&NR=1
(it's Meganlicious)

What we might all of us 'do better' at is writing something better than what this movie may be in jeopardy of being: a pretty tired version of a Horror movie. (Or maybe not; I liked Diablo Cody's JUNO, I suppose, but still ... who dares try to out witty dialogue BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER?)

I have to say I endorse one line in the prevue though:

Girl Victim gonna-be: "I thought you only murdered boys!"

Megan Fox: "I go both ways."

To every parrot its cracker,
to every teen audience its titillation.

To every writer, our aspiration!

There've been more than one movie inspired by a WOTF-length short story after all! 8)

Don't worry: Knowing who Megan Fox is, is only important while you are in the first bardo or stage of awakening during the soul's transmigration between incarnations after death.

In the second bardo, you may encounter something like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0gvbCbr7qw&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Ftranscendentman%2Ecom%2F&feature=player_embedded

Who knew that the Singularity was going to be so singularly eerily animated ... by machines? :D

(The animation site is fun to play on, though hearing it spoken by the bots will kill any dialogue you put in it for you, forever.)

Another disturbing SF / Fantasy / Dark Vision video ... maybe inspiration for someone's Hotel California-inspired short story / bad trip ...

I like the jaded-until-it's-poisoned-his-soul irony, which may go over the head of the ... um ... headless stripper dancing on the bar!

http://www.clevver.com/music/video/24498/don-henley-everything-is-different-now-regular-version.html

Don Henley in a dark romantic mood.

A lesson in how to build suspense in a scene? Shorts like this is where I wish I could read the thing as written on the page, to dissect its technique.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNVOl5_3_Zo&NR=1

It's an ad, so please resist the product indoctrination. Or ... remember what the stuff actually tastes like! :?

And now, an alien caught on a traffic cam:

Cool saucer design, imo. these guys should be working in Hollywood with a decent fx budget.

Peter Jackson's DISTRICT 9 stuff. I guess I was rilly behind the curve on this one, I hardly heard anything until the trailers came on TV ... but holy cow it looks like it'll be powerful and cool Sci-Fi ...

trailer and website
http://www.district9movie.com/

District 9 on wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/District_9

Wikus quickly becomes the most hunted man in the world, as well as the most valuable, for he is the key to unlocking the secrets of alien technology. Van der Merwe becomes ostracized and friendless and comes to hide in District 9.

In LA they have bus benches and bus board that say "For Humans Only" and "aliens not allowed to sit on this bench or to ride on this bus". It 's kinda funny. I don't know if they have it in other places too.

And somewhere in L.A. there gotta be some Chicano cats shaking their heads and thinking: That's so not cool, guero. :)

In aparteid South Africa, it's probably striking a vital cultural nerve.

WATCHMEN's Alan Moore's "advice for young artists, writers, dreamers, etc starting out"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGq-9X3ho7U&feature=related

First, get a cool accent loik 'is, moit! :P Grow a Rasputin beard. Follow your bliss ... Don't do it to be fymuss or rich.

Then, some of the classic SF writers of the past discuss the meaning of Science Fiction.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crkt1kiNj4E

Just hearing their voices was a trip for me ... but deep down inside I'm thinkin' Alan Moore is more my sort of loonatic.

THE ROAD. The movie trailer looks amazing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbLgszfXTAY

The book, well ... what did you think of the book?

More specifically ... How was or wasn't the book in regard to being a "science fiction genre" book?

Someone told me it was the sort of book read and praised by people who sneered at SF genre books otherwise. What say you?

Aha, I didn't realize that guy had a name!

A little known fact: That's exactly how the recording on the Voyager probe begins: "It's --!" ... before all the children of Earth say "hello" in 200 languages and then the Mozart and the humpback whales singing kicks in. :)

"It's --!"

(gee, I miss Carl Sagan. I miss the pop culture being excited about the whole idea of science-as-wonder like when Cosmos was on)

Gright. We just told all the berserkers right where we live. Sagan is standing in front of the Boston City Hall, an architectural nightmare if ever there was one.
Oh, the golden record, proving to the universe we're still into analog---vinyl. How very seventies.
There was another thread that extolled the virtue of paper for its longevity. Guess they never heard of gold CD-R:
http://www.cddimensions.com/Gold-CD-R-M ... ducts/199/
Tested to 300 years, and if the composite people of 2309 have no CD players, all computers of the period 9 dimensional holos between muons and quarks? Tough. We lived this long without the writings of Rowling and Pi...

Simulated tests to 300 years -- unless they have a time machine.

Scuff the surface of a CD and it's pretty much unreadable. Books will stand up to much worse treatment. Of course the scribes of cuneiform tablets probably said the same thing about that new-fangled papyrus.

No disagreement here. Among data storage types, optical is better than hard disk or tape for longevity, but that is relative to computer storage. I guess by extension, to be safe computer storage should be archived on punch cards.

In my day job, I try to persuade people not to trust their precious data to the cheapest CD-R they can pick up retail. The gold CDs are a better bet, even than DVD-R or CD-RW, which also have less life. My stories are stored at both home and work HDDs, so I'm pretty safe. a decade ago the choice was ablative WORM, these LP-sized opticals that actually had tiny craters burned onto them by a laser. Now people are stuck because there never was a WORM standard. So drive availability is a real concern, even with something as ubitquitous as a CD player. Want to get rich? Build a time machine, send Sonys to 2109 in exchange for solid platinum. They'll laugh, tell the alchemist to make another block and sell the player for what's really valuable in the future: water.

It will be interesting. I mean, in Biblical times, the amount of history recorded was severely limited due to the pain of keeping all of it around, transcribing, storage, etc.. Yes, the tablet guys must have seen a surge in business after the library burned in Alexandria.

Now we probably produce as much information daily as was recorded over the millennia prior to CE 1. The nemesis of future historians will be trying to discover what's actually important in all the records. Fear not the forest fire, fear the forest.

Heh. Me, I just _loves_ the subject of "preserving human knowledge."

I once posted my thoughts on it here:

Cool words there. Spooky cool.

I’ve long had a notion that the only medium that's guaranteed to survive into deep time is DNA.

http://www.thefoggiestnotion.com/preserving_knowledge.htm

And I am trying, oh trying if trying is dreaming, as hard as I can ... to encode myself into Megan Fox's DNA. :o

That's how it's always been though. People have always generated a few good things and a lot of crap. I dunno, I'm a long-time student of history and from what I've seen, things never really change all that much. Mostly because people don't change. Internet is just another byproduct of the human condition.

Personally, I think it's a great tool and like all tools is neither good nor bad. Its value is wholly dependent on how the user is using it.

I've probably just reached blog saturation, then.

900 million people writing personal diaries on the InterToob... Holy frak.

Who has the time or interest to read all that?

(shrug)

I agree overall, the InterToob is neither bad nor good. It just is.

And like cars, the InterToob seems to bring out the worst in people when they're behind the whee-EErrr, keyboard.

haha ahh that would make sense. I totally avoid the blogosphere. Trying to wade through it would be like sticking my head in a blender lol. Just looking at facebook gets me annoyed enough as is.

That's one of the good things about books. Yeah, there are plenty of duds out there, but at least they've gone through a decent filtration process. That's also what makes me happy about the odds of success in publishing. A lot of the fat is cut away early.

She's just doing this to hurt me. :o

Megan Fox starring as Mother Teresa

And (my uncle was big Playah in the early KFC bizness)
Mel Gibson as Col. Sanders!

Science Fiction? no. Alternate Reality? just maybe.

Most ridiculous piece of casting I ever saw. The makeup? Ever see a nun tarted up?

It is pure hollywood that equates beauty with goodness. Goodness is at least as often plain. But, that wouldn't sell.

I doubt many Missionaries of Charity will see it. This is what she looked like when young:

She was Albanian by birth.

Ah well. They make their choices and I can make mine.

C'mon ... so she had an inner Beauty that shines through, let's say! And so if the Hollywood weasels want an inner-beauty-that-shines-through-and-the-part-that-shines-through-looks-sortah-like-a-rilly-rilly-hawt-nympho or sumthin' ... sigh

I'm half thinking the Megan Fox as Mother (on her way to Sainthood) Teresa trailer is just a video goof like the Mel Gibson as Colonel Sanders thing, anyway.

If they have Megan/Teresa say the line "We're gonna need a bigger confessional" 8) ... I'll be sure!

Just found out even hollywood isn't that stupid.
The poster is from a movie within a movie. The movie the spoof is nesting in is: How to Lose Friends and Alienate People.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/ar ... eresa.html

Fiction. Had me going there for a few hours.
