I like this one. Her hair is so perfectly feminine and child-like, but without impeding her ability to build the tower.

Very nice! And the essence of what I love about Larsen's paintings. There she is, surrounded by the grandeur of modern engineering, and getting ready to take her place in the next generation.

While I wouldn't call it art, this guy is begging me to find a story for him:

And here's a video that certainly inspires me! (Warning: it's preceded by a rather loud ad for Monday Night Football.)

I found it via this USA Today story, which also inspires some ideas for me.

And if you've read any of my stories, you can guess that this piece is my absolute favorite. If I had a spare $2,000, a print of that would be hanging on my wall.

Sell some stories and use the money to buy yourself something pretty. wotf011

I like this one. Her hair is so perfectly feminine and child-like, but without impeding her ability to build the tower. I also like the weightlessness in this one. And also this one.

Thanks for sharing. wotf008

At first glance, I thought the woman in the second one was pulling the clouds away on the planet below. (See how the path of her left hand is free of cloud cover?)

Oh dear. I need a signature.
And an avatar.
And probably other things I don't even know about.

I feel naked.

Wal-Mart was selling the last of their Halloween masks -- and we bought TWO of these imo utterly cool werewolf masks (cool fake fur and very real-looking rubber skin) for only $5 each!

At the lower left is a photo of Alice Liddell, who ALICE IN WONDERLAND was written for and named after. Then the others are just equally creepy images, from the era's rather odd mysterious and sort of deathcult vibe. Jack the Ripper and grinding up actual mummies to make oil paints, dark and dire sexual uptightness under a facade of proper society ... and Britain alternately conquering and (in their eyes) enlightening the world, what?

Thanks! That's also almost the exact snarl our Yorkie Rico gives you, when you try to take away something he's stolen from off the dinner table. (He will jump immediately up onto any chair left out, and pillage and rapine any object he then finds while running up and down the dinner table like a bull entering the arena. Pens and tv remotes all look like they've been down the garbage disposal a few times, from his tooth marks he's gnawed into them)

Ahhhhh ... after the collapse ...

Few recent groups have done such cool sci-fi videos imo as Linkin Park (luv or hate 'em, their credits music and vidz make the TRANSFORMERS movie about x10 more philosophically poignant! Which is, y'know, 0 x 10 moviewise ... but Linkin Park always seems to actually be singing against angelic falls and transcendental regret, rather than action toyz from the '70's ...)

IN THE END
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yw1Tgj9-VU&ob=av2n
dry dead desert planet, decaying future fallen human civilization's Stalinist monumental sculpture ... but then the rain comes again and the humpback whales fly once more! I ... wait a minnit ... what?!

At least nobody cowboy pistolwhips a slot machine! wotf008 (Though i do luv my tom petty!)

And songs about ecology and man's ruination of ... himself and all around himself

'Every picture tells a story' ... to those who are listening. wotf008

http://www.quora.com/His-Dark-Materials-book-series/Where-did-Phillip-Pullman-get-the-idea-for-daemons

[Philip Pullman] explains that when he was writing the first book, he was hit with writer's block until he wrote the line " 'Lyra and her daemon' ", and in a burst of what he describes as " 'automatic writing', " (qtd. in Andronik 42) he suddenly " [...] realized that everyone in Lyra's world had a daemon; and at first, all the daemons could change form from one animal to another" (42-43). It was his further refinement of the characterization of daemons, the fact that they eventually would " 'settle'," that solidified his concept and " '[drove] the story' " (43). Initially,Pullman claims he had no idea where the idea of daemons came from, but further investigation reveals a bit of inspiration in the form of a work of art.

Once, in Poland, Pullman saw a painting by DaVinci of a young girl holding an ermine, and the connection between the two was so evident, that he envisioned Lyra and Pantalaimon. He describes, " 'And while she [the girl in the painting] is dressed much more elegantly than Lyra would be, if you made a few small alterations--yes, she could be Lyra' "

Well okay. I have something to say about Spectrum and this seems to be the only place I can do any posting.
I don't know if anyone has noticed or not, but since the beginning Spectrum has been publishing their faves in every issue. At least it seems like it. Anyway, their faves have been getting their turns every issue. Now, is this good? Is it fair? I spent more money than I could afford a few times with my very best work; nada. Now these gods of art I ' m sure do not really need this. They are on top of it all. They take up space that could be given to some new talent who is struggling in poverty. Of course nobody said it would be easy (someone says) and I say 'gimme a break.' No. On second thought don't. I am not wasting another sou on Spectrum. Anyway, they could publish the same issue every year and no one would notice. It all looks the same after a while.
What a wotf019

This SPECTRUM ?

http://forum.writersofthefuture.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=624

Because I'll agree that the $20 per art piece entry fee is steep (again: IotF would be my first destination for my art; in fact, the art that won me my soiree in L.A. ? Went nowhere at SPECTRUM)

And yeah, as in Writing, sometimes the Big Names seem to get some oxygen more deserved by Brighter New Flames ...

But still, I'd think it's THE place to see and be seen, at the risk of some little $$$.

And last year's IotF Gold Prize winner Irvin Rodriguez got into its pages as a new artist ... so they're not all that closed to new and unknown artists. Though he's sort of ... y'know ... Great. wotf008

I feel ya, though. It's a tuff nut to crack, and I've felt it kick me there myself!

Cool one-man-movie ... supposedly done using free-use software such as Blender ...

http://vimeo.com/57148705

Today we have an impressive sci-fi short film called R’ha which has been getting a lot of attention despite being online less than 24 hours. It’s a solo project written, directed, and animated by Kaleb Lechowski during his first year of studying animation and digital film, and follows a member of an alien race who is being interrogated and tortured by a machine.

As a child of about 9 to 11 years old I would always wait up until midnight to watch Red Dwarf. Sometimes I would fall asleep before Red Dwarf, and always I would fall asleep after Red Dwarf.. but never during Red Dwarf would I ever fall asleep.

10 minutes of selected funny of Red Dwarf:

Goes to show that sci-fi can be hilarious.

Here's a cool video Jordan Ellinger shared over on Facebook.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=G0KTUysrwgQ

And the making of video (starring the mass murderer cult girl actress from ... um ... um ... y'know? The guy's leading an E A Poe cult to murder folks, the FBI guy is chasing him ...? THE FOLLOWING, yeah, thanks imdb.
Valorie Curry being the living actress) that's oddly sci-fi reality all by itself.

At some point, will humans get played by an AI that knows our emotions (and judging from comments elsewhere, our human fetishes) and feeds them back to us without feeling a thing?
