This topic is to discuss the online course comments and teachings by Orson Scott Card, Tim Powers, and David Farland. Please open your post with the name of the instructor, the section he spoke or wrote in, and the gem you learned. Isolating key points of knowledge can help others single them out as well. We are here to share knowledge, and you can hardly do better than knowledge shared by three bestselling icons in speculative fiction. Shine a light on your lightbulb moments!

Tim Powers - WotF Online Workshop, Section 5 (Writing Description)
I found this helpful: think of a real place when trying to describe settings in your story. Think about engaging different senses for that place (what it looked like, different smells, sounds, etc).
Now use this to create the details for your story setting. The details are important.
They make the scenery come alive!

@scott_m_sands Great point. And Tim Powers is the master of researching locales and finding odd little details to make his stories vivid and unique!

You may be able to answer this question Wulf, but anyone else with the inside info can feel free to jump in. I know that everyone at WotF is CRAZY busy right now. Can we expect anymore Q and A's/AMA's in the future? Maybe after the gala and workshop, if the WotF organizers' general workload settles down a little?
I'd personally love another opportunity like this if possible, at some point in the future.

@scott_m_sands Sure will! But right now, John is doing a slew of podcasts with guests and winners.

Cool, thanks. I always listen to the podcasts-they were, in fact, a pivotal element of my thinking regularly that I'm a writer-so that's fine with me!
I'm sure there'll be some gold nuggets of help and encouragement in there.

@scott_m_sands I can answer that. Yes, there will be more Q&As and AMAs...once we have settled down a bit.
