My "Tiananmen Square / Man versus Tanks" image disappeared from my signature (I assume the outside image link just went down or is gone, okay) ... but now when I try to restore another image ... the signature tool tells me image code is not accepted.
Is that some unintended glitch from the new, increased spam filters?
But I luv my Tiananmen Square tank guy in my signature. It's Man's stand against totalitarianism.
Can we no longer use images in the signatures?
(Obviously the other one's there, but is it only grandfathered in, doomed to disappear next time I change my signature?)

My guess is you unintentionally broke Brad's little red wagon, and this is his insidious revenge ploy. Next he'll recode the forum to convert all of your posts to sanskrit.
Other than that, I have no clue; but I won't easily recognize your posts without those images. They're your calling card.

Alas, back in the old school, several of us had lovely visual sigs ... but it does seem that folks sort of drift away* from the forums after they win their contest (or pro out).
* (the alternative explanations: saucer abduction, witness relocation programs, etc)
Me, I still have the WRITING bee buzzing in my bonnet
(alternative explanations: alien transmissions, British use of the word 'bonnet', hope that if I win the WOTF I'll run into Lisa Bonet out in L.A. during some future an L.A. workshop)
"Hello, LAPD? I'd like to report a restraining order violation ...?"
But I do worry about ability to include images disappearing from forum sigs etc.
ILLUSTRATION CONTEST folks may feel more at home with a forum with a minimum of visuals too, imo ...

I'm tempted to cut images entirely from signatures, but I haven't decided yet.

Could we ask "Why?"
Some sites don't even have avatars, and those are sad, visual-arts unfriendly sites indeed.
Most here obviously choose not to avail themselves of a visual signature, but that's their call.
In a forum dedicated to the ILLUSTRATORS CONTEST too ...
Why should you be tempted to 'cut' images, Brad?
Are they not smallish images with smallish file sizes, and cutting them a slippery slope towards attracting even fewer IOTF'ers to join us in the forums?
What imagined benefit 'tempts' thee ???

I see only one and a broken link to the other.

That's what I see now, too, on my Mac/Safari. But on my phone (Android), I see both images fine. Odd.
ETA: if I try to open the missing image in a new tab, I get a screen at Blogware that says, "Blogware has been discontinued." So that's probably the answer. I guess my phone still has a cached copy of the image.

Oh, don't cut images, please! I agree they can be kept to reasonable sizes, but I'd hate for them to be cut from sigs. We're using images quite readily over in the cover workshop thread (though, yes, some of them could stand to be smaller)--and it would be nice to see some of them in finished-product form in sigs (assuming people wanted to put their coveres somewhere).
Like Scott said, we want to be visual-arts friendly. Don't we?

Scott's Tianenmen image was working for me all last night, even while others reported it missing.
Yesterday, it was missing for me, too, so it couldn't have been a cached image.
Today, it's missing again.
Wonder if there's a problem on Scott's host side.

I've been able to see it (animated too) all along. And just to clarify, in Brad's post below (or above, if that's how you {sc}roll) it was only signature images he was deliberating on, not images at large.

I agree, my original assumption was simply that the site I was linked to for the "Man versus Tanks" image was broken. That may be the case.
BUT ... when I tried to replace it, the WOTF forum said that image code was not accepted.
Even then, I assumed (benefit of the doubt) that something in the recent spam/spam filter jiggering had unknowingly damaged the sig image tool.
But NOW if the issue is that Brad is deliberating on/tempted to block our sig images ... I'd still have to ask "why?"
We have them, so they're already status quo, why CHANGE?
Some here do LIKE them (they add VISUAL ART to the forum, and we're a Visual CONTEST forum too; even WRITERS could use an image sig to promote/show their book covers etc) ...
WHY be 'tempted/deliberate' removing/blocking them now?
It's sort of a "freedom of expression" thing if the tool WAS there and later it's cut/blocked.
"Why?" It's a fair, sincere question.

I happened to notice, the link to your image in the post and the one in your sig is different. Could it be a problem with the url?

I can still see both images in your signature on my PC and Dell Laptop.
I'm assuming that there is a technical reason Brad might want to nix signature images, though I've never run a forum before, so I don't know what issues they might cause.
If it's boiled down to a matter of opinion, I'm for keeping them. I don't know how this forum can be half Illustrators of the Future without letting the Illustrators illustrate up-their accounts.
I see one image that works, one that does not. I suspect whatever site the broken image comes from, is down.
And yes, I was only discussing signature images. And I have not made up my mind yet.
Do. Not. Panic.

I cannot safely go in and remove that stupid "x in a box" (if one will allow that reference to the Justin Timberlake skit on SNL) because if I go in to remove IT ... as it stands (or as my understanding stands) the refreshed signature will remove ALL images and image code.
I'm just sayin' ... That's why I don't do anything to get rid of the broken link.
If the topic is still under consideration, here's my one vote:
A forum of Illustrators should ALLOW freakin' signature images ... unless there is a good reason NOT to.
Illustrators have as much right to IMAGES as Writers have to words
It was never a problem adding / changing signature images until the last time I tried (when my Tiananmen Square tank link broke) ... now it's threatening (imo) to remove them all.

Again, not sure what's going on exactly, or what everyone else sees, but on every computer/mobile device I use to check this forum I see your signature images just fine. Including ones I hadn't used before you made the complaint that it was gone. Something strange is afoot at the Circle K.
Well, you go to edit your signature and this is what it says:
[img] is OFF
[flash] is OFF
[url] is ON
Smilies are ON
So I'm wondering if it cannot be solved (and signature images allowed again) simply with the flick of a switch ... by someone who has access to the switch?
Seriously, visiting Illustrators would see it as a more visually-friendly forum ...
