I wanted to let everyone know that there is an update being done to the submission portal. It is basically the same, just a newer look and easier to navigate (once you get used to it).

The key difference is that instead of having to create a user account and password for each quarterly submission, you will create one account and profile for all future entries until you win!! If you move or need to update your email the system allows you to edit your profile. Also if you forget your password, there is a reset button.

I hope you like the new look. I will be around to help anyone as needed on the technical side.

We will be testing this over the next quarter, July 1 - September 30, 2021.

Good luck with your submissions!!!

Best, Jason Toth

I'm glad you fixed that. I had an anxious moment when I tried to submit my entry and it didn't work.

I then read the instructions that said I had to start from square one.

Awesome! I look forward to seeing the new and improved portal.

(and suddenly my mind goes to a story idea about a society of misfits who sacrifice the work of their blood, sweat, and tears to a mysterious god via a portal that swallows their gift without a trace. Anxiously they wait for months to know if their works have appeased the god, all the while laboring over their next sacrifice)

Hmmmm…

I'm trying to submit for Q4 but can only see the Q3 entry button, which tells me submissions are closed. Q4 is open isn't it?

@pdblake okay you can be the first one to give this a try. The Q4 is now open on the submission portal.

The new system will create the one account and profile and then you can use this same account going forward.

Good luck!

That's good to know. Gonna be a long enough wait as it is without worrying it might not have worked. winking

This new system doesn't send confirmation emails, correct?

@alexvss thank you for your submission. In the submission portal page once you click the submit you will just see a confirmation on that page. There is currently no additional email that is sent out.

I looked at the old system and see that there was an additional email sent.

I am wondering if it was not clear enough when you submitted that it was accepted or if you would feel better just receiving and additional email on top of what you saw? As this is a new system your feedback will be reviewed and taken into account for any adjustments that we need to make.

@jason

Most magazines send confirmation e-mails for subs. If you didn't get one, then something went wrong and they didn't get your piece. Because of that, I end up assuming that everything sends confirmation e-mails. ? ? ? But, as you confirmed that the new system doesn't need that, all is well!

@jason

Others may differ in opinion, but personally I'd love a confirmation email (on top of the 'submission success' that shows up as you submit).

Extra peace of mind for me.

Same, honestly. (It gives us a receipt, if that makes sense.)

@pdblake thanks for the heads up. Yes due to popular demand I just programmed the system to send a confirmation email on submission. Happy to hear you got yours. I was going to post something as I just finished up the programming, but you beat me to it.

@disgruntledpeony thanks for your input too. So this just was updated the new submission system and I pushed out all of the notifications to people that have submitted already for Q4. Good luck!

@alexvss okay, thanks for your advice and feedback. You should have now gotten an email confirmation and going forward all users will get one when they submit.

Thanks! Always nice to have wishes granted. shades

I haven't actually submitted for Q4 yet, but I look forward to my confirmation email when I do.

Again, thanks. It's awesome to see when people are willing (and able) to take on feedback.

@scott_m_sands Look, I'm just glad I got to help test out the new system. laughing (I made sure to put my withdrawal requests in for Q3 and Q4--no point in causing undue confusion.)

Wow @disgruntledpeony. Reading your signature makes me wonder when those stories will be in an anthology. The persistence you displayed with each submission, and the results received, until finally, 1st place. Awesome.

A few of them have been published elsewhere, or will be published elsewhere in future. A couple have found homes on my website, too. I've only retired three stories (they're broken and I haven't the energy to fix them). I do have something like 9 or 10 that I'm actively shopping around, at the moment, and at least half of those have been through the contest at some point.

That's actually a reprint of a revised R that subsequently sold elsewhere. laughing

Editing on the book is basically done, but I need to find time to get the artwork done so I can push for the Kickstarter. That's going to be a major priority for me over the next month or so--I was originally planning to make things happen in June, but then I pulled a shoulder muscle bad enough I couldn't do much of anything for a couple weeks, and then life kept piling on and... yeah. I'll get there! I've hit some snags, but I should still be able to get the anthology published before the end of the year.
