We were testing suitable posts to page back then, Dr. Jest. It settled because we chose. It’s now only set to a long page on days when we have AMAs. It’s easier for the guest to find and answer questions if the questions are all on one page.

Well that explains it, certainly! I did wonder what on earth was going on that day...

(A shame it's not bespoke under the hood, else we could force just the AMA threads to do that.)

I noticed a lot of posts weren't carried over with the change. I lost about 400 somewhere in the system.

Looking at some other long-time members I see I'm not the only one.

One thing I've noticed recently (and I'm noticing today) is that the main body pages of the forum posts sometimes seem to make a mistake with the paging count. Right now, I'm seeing threads that were previously 9 pages long suddenly presented all on 1 page, and previously, I remember having a really strange experience where the forum view for one thread (which was actively being posted in at the time) jumped from something like 19 pages, to 13, then all the way down to 3 long pages, and then back up to a page count in the 20s again (after which it seemed to settle down and remain stable).

Unsure if there's some kind of math error in the logic that's determining the page count or page size. It doesn't really cause any problem in terms of usability, but it is rather odd.

Speaking of AMAs. Where did the Echo Chernik one go? I was reading it last night but it was a bit late for me. Now it seems to have vanished.

Very odd as I took great care to make sure all moved over from the old forum. One thing that I found is that the counting system on the old forum was not 100% accurate in the number due to the way the old system was.

I still have the old system offline were I can check into things. Not sure if you are basing missing posts off of the counter or an actual thread you remember that you are not seeing. As stated the numbering on the old system was off, but if there is any specific thread I could check the offline system to see if I made a mistake and would be happy to fix it if I did.

@doctorjest as Moon stated when we do an AMA we adjust the number of posts per page to 200 so that it is all in one long page for ease of seeing all of the questions. Once this is over it goes back to 30 posts per page. Sorry for the confusion on this and not letting people know before. As a general rule I try to do this just on the days we have the guest AMAs.

We did on yesterday with Echo, so you would have seen this happening again, but it is back to normal now.

It's not a big deal. I was just wondering about the reduced number of posts.

It took some getting used to the changes but I enjoy my visits with the community.

My number of posts from the old forum to the new went down as well, Storysinger. I mentioned it to Jason and found out the old system had a counting glitch. No posts apparently were lost. The new forum simply adds them up properly.

I don't know if this is since the upgrade but is this normal? Is there some "strikethrough" in joke or special super secret?

Page 47 and 49 look normal.

@wulfmoon thanks for the alert. I have found the bug. If anyone else finds anything like this just shoot me a message and I will take care of them. This was an error in conversion to the new system.

So I was looking for that mark all as read functionality and discovered the answer here in this thread. However it looks like it really means ALL ALL not like in the old one where you could mark all the topics in the main category you were in without marking the other categories as read. 

This is okay and I can just do it at the end of my visit to the forum for the day to mark threads I'm not following as read so the next time I'm here it is clear. But I will mention that I did like the different levels of mark all as read that the old forum had (posts, threads, topics). If there is a list for the future that is one I personally would like back.

Hey just as a note - since I did the mark all as read the "New" icons aren't working for me - they are just jumping me to the first page of the post. I'm using chrome.

Probably just me, but the "jump to last unread post" function isn't working for me today. Figured it was worth mentioning I know admins LOVE hearing about anomalous bugs.

Yeah, not sure why. If it's just me, it's on my end and not a forum issue but clicking it takes me to the first page of the thread (and stays there, instead of reloading to the newest unread). Not a huge deal.

It never works for me, but I'm usually on my phone, so that might make a difference.

It doesnt seem to work for me either on the cell phone.

It has always worked on my tablet, and is a handy feature. Looks like a phone issue. I’ve reported it to Jason. Thanks!

It works on my phone, which an older iPhone (still on iOS 14). Maybe it’s an iOS 15 issue or an android issue.

Yes the process has been something and I think we are getting there. (The earlier portal was built using Adobe Flash code, which is no longer supported by Adobe which prompted the change...)
