Hey all! I wanted to call attention to the current submissions call over at Apex Magazine (where I'm the managing editor). Through September, we're looking for stories from unpublished authors only. Our baseline rule is if you've ever been paid anything for fiction, you don't qualify. We do recognize there's a lot of gray area, though, so if you aren't sure you can check with our EiC Lesley. All the details are here: https://apex-magazine.com/apex-blog/unpublished-author-submissions-call/
This is a great opportunity to get your work read and possibly published at a pro magazine. You don't get prize money or a week in Hollywood, but I love what Apex publishes and would love to see some familiar names!

I received a rejection this week. Apex is one of my dream publications. I'm due to be paid for my first sale tomorrow, so in a weird way I'm kind of hoping I don't get paid so I can submit to Apex again (assuming a second submission is okay - I haven't checked).

Argh, whatever I have in stock is way too long for that call (or way too short and already been through the Apex flash fiction Rs). I've been scractching my head all month as to what I could submit, or whether I could draft something new, but the Obituary theme of FF contest has kind of killed my brain 🤣
Pity cause I'm so fully unpublished it's like I've never existed lol. I'm going to try to compress a sci-fi horror I've got to under 5k. It's 8k. Meh. I need to speed up if I want 2 tries at that call, but afraid it's already too late for that.
Good luck to everyone submitting and I'm crossing fingers and toes for you. Yes, you can make it into Apex. One of my friends from my critique group got his piece accepted in the Flash contest. So it's possible. It would be amazing if one of us from this forum got their story out there!

Thanks for posting this submission market out.
I edited a story my test readers felt is one of my best with their comments and submitted.
Fingers crossed.
