It may be of interest to some of you that Black Static and Interzone are now taking online submissions.

So far had three R's from the latter, all 'hope that you'll send us something new soon' and the longest being 17 days. Just tried the former for the first time.

Do you happen to know how much they pay? I can't seem to find it in the guidelines.
WOTF: 1 SF, 1 SHM, 4 HM
Fiction (EN): 43 stories sold, 29 published
Fiction (GR): c.10 stories published & a children’s novel
Sorry George, I couldn't find it either. I just reckoned that since their reputation is good I had nothing to lose by trying.

My memory seems to recall ~3 cents a word. Though I can't recall from where. And I think that rate is American vs. British. I do know they aren't a professional market by SWFA definitions, so definitely less than 5 cents a word.

Thanks for the info. If it's really 3 cents a word it's fair enough payment and I know Interzone has a good reputation so I may give them a try sooner or later. It's strange not to mention their pay rates in the guidelines, however.
The Grinder also lists them as "unknown payment."

A few years ago they would do one month a year when they took e-submissions, I sent in stories during that time. At that time they were considered a good market at least on the forum I was on at the time.
But I lost track of them so I don't know if they were still doing the one month e-submissions that last two years.
Seems like they used to be listed on ralan.com but I couldn't find them just now.

One HM for another contest
published in Strange New Worlds Ten.
Another HM http://onthepremises.com/minis/mini_18.html
I've heard, but I don't know where now so I might just be making things up, that their payment varies and that's why it's not listed.
It was probably even here I heard(made it up).

Duotrope has them both as "Pay ranges from Semi-pro payment (1-4.9 US cents per word) to Professional payment (5 or more US cents per word)" but nothing more specific than that.
They're both respectable, long-running magazines, though, with BFA awards and the like, so well worth submitting to in any case.

Sadly no. They (Black Static) rejected in one day. Since these are the only two 'horror' stories that I've ever written, this may tell me that I can't write horror. On the other hand, since one was my apparently unread Diodati story and the other was also 19th century in setting, it maybe tells me something else entirely.

At Interzone's Duotrope listing, payment has changed from 'semi-pro' to 'unknown.' A search of their website provides no useful information. Has anyone on the forums sold a story to this mob, or know someone who has? It'd be useful to know what they actually pay.

I do keep trying, but no. Yesterday Interzone rejected a story of mine on the same day, in little more time than it must have taken to read it, assuming they did read it.

Yeah, I've copped some quick Rs from them as well.
Not clear to me why they aren't up front about payment. Perhaps they want room to negotiate the price with Authors.

After posting here last I managed a 2-day acceptance to Interzone. Pretty happy with that. They're still a semi-pro market (though with a pro rep).

Congratulations! How long is the story they bought?

I forget to mention it here, but I managed a second acceptance at Interzone. Coming out in January, I think. The story is called: "An Advanced Guide to Successful Price-Fixing in Extraterrestrial Betting Markets."
It's fairly weird and the closest I've ever written to a PKD-type story.
So if anyone here has some weird stuff, Interzone maybe worth a look.

My Q4 story is on the weird side...Once I get my WotF R, I should give Interzone a try. Thanks for the news!
