Flash Fiction Chronicle's "String of 10" contest is now live! Deadline's Feb 4th to turn in your 250-word story using four of the following ten words
LITTER-ENTRANCE-SAFE-SPIRITUAL -SPOTLIGHT-BOOKMARK-CATASTROPHE-RAZOR-FAULTY-ULTIMATE
and "thematically inspired" by the following quote (whatever that means)
I prefer the errors of enthusiasm to the indifference of wisdom. -Anatole France
Go, go, go!

Now we all remember what happened when you prompted us to enter a flash contest this time last year ...
So here's hoping lightning strikes twice! I'm in.

I was planning to finish editing and submit a couple of other stories in the next few days, but it's a flash... and I like the concept... so why not?

Mine's written. I had to kill a few darlings to get it down to 250 words (exactly 250, I might add), but it's done.
Anyone want to trade before the deadline?
I'm in for ten.
Hope one of us wins or places.

I'm in as well.
Good luck everyone!
This is probably a stupid question but... they say don't include a byline but you have to put a cover letter, so does that include not putting your name in the cover letter?

I doubt if it matters. They will have your name / email address through Submittable anyway, won't they? I think the point is that the entries will be judged blind and they don't want the trouble of deleting a byline, just like WotF.

I guess. As I said, probably a stupid question, I just had a slight don't-want-to-stuff-it-up moment. Thanks, Ishmael!
Well, I'm in. It's only the second piece I've written that short, so it was quite a bit of fun.

I'm in, too, thanks to Stewart. I'd already seen the contest title on The Grinder, but flash is not my priority and by the time I'd bother to check out the details the contest would probably be long over.
For me, too, it's the second time I've written a story that short -- but it was fun. I couldn't have believed I'd be able to put so much stuff in 249 words
I don't even know if I should put so much stuff in, I've no idea what's considered proper in micro-fiction.

Okay, in the interests of not missing the party...I'm in too!
This reminded me of grade-school, when we had to use all our spelling words in our story. All these years later, and it still hasn't gotten any easier.
Good luck, all! Can't wait to see the short list.

I thought about entering I have a story already short enough and I could have added four of those words easily enough but that "thematically inspired" quote may have been a problem. Not sure if the story reflected that but never got around to seeing for sure.
But you guys are good so I expect someone to get win.

So, according to their posted deadline they've already selected finalists. I'm not sure they're sending out notices for that but I didn't get one anyway. Anybody else?

No notice here. I was hoping they would do a post when they picked finalists so we would know for sure, but I guess we have to wait until they choose their winners.

I was wondering the same thing. They were supposed to pick finalists on Feb 16th (and winners on Feb 21st.) Either they chose not to notify anyone about the shortlist or their decision has been delayed (they said the schedule may change without notice.)
