Aw, Preston. I'm keeping you company though. I made it to the final round as well (is that different from the second round?). It finished with 'but I enjoyed your work and will be glad to see more in future' - is that standard so it wasn't a one line email (as I didn't have any comments on the story itself) or can I be legitimately happy about it? ;p
Possibly silly questions
Unfortunately the only theme that's inspired me atm is Revolution and as that closes at the end of the month...

Bummer, guys.
Tamlyn: there's a whole 15 days to the end of bathe month--get cracking!
The one-line version of the reject is one I've received before, and the final round is different than the second.
Preston: sounds like you have a good chance with it elsewhere, too, if that's its only flaw.
As a Japanese mythology nerd, I'd be glad to look at both your stories.
As for me, well... *clears throat*

As one who has read your work and knows your Japanese mythology nerd status, I knew it! Congratulations, Stewart! So very pleased!

Even though I didn't read this one (I think) I was totally sure you'd sell it to this issue. If they didn't pick you, I would have had no hope for humanity or something like that. Congrats again!

Congrats Stewart!

Stewart! Wow, you did it! Very awesome. I'm very happy to see that one of us made it. And yes, since you offered, I'd love a nerd review. The story is on its way. Congratulations!
And Tamlyn, my commiserations. It both stings and thrills when you make it to the final round, but no further.
Not sure how Penumbra's review process works. I've been told I made it to second round, next round, later round and final round. Not sure how many rounds there are! But this time I was a finalist, and that ain't too shabby. Now that the market is about to be flooded by rejected Japanese mythology stories, I'm wondering what the chances are for finding this one a home...
Thanks for all the commiserations, guys. I'll gladly bow down to Stewart on this one.
Now for a little story about revolution....I'm starting one already! Mu-ha-ha-ha!

But you guys can try again and we need someone in this again.
Good thing my knowledge of Japanese lore is low or our average would be low too.

Just got word that I've been moved to the next round for the Fae issue. They love me they *really* love me!! What? what is that? They send this message to everyone? Oh.

Go Tina! Go Rebecca!
The story that I had originally intended to write for the Fae issue is now at 3800 words, and it's only 1/3 of the way done, so... I'll be sitting this one out.

I had thought about entering this one but the idea got swamped by other writing activities.

Is anyone else in for the revolution issue? I have a piece I'm going to write tonight which I had intended to send to Nature, but which I just realized sort of fits that theme, as well. May as well send it there first.

I've got no revolution and a brain that's about as functional as a car with its engine stolen right now, so probably not. On the plus side, I finished up reading your story, Stewart, and should have my thoughts coherent enough to send in the morning.

I did actually send in a story for the revolution issue but it came back right away with a note pointing out it didn't fit the theme. Well, it was a bit of a long shot admittedly.

I have three stories that are under their word limit that might deal with revolution in one form or another.
Actually, I have a 500 word story that probably fits but it's very simple and hopefully kinda humorous.

My "revolution" story turned out to be 5k after the first draft, so I'm expanding it for other markets instead.

What did you guys send--a cookbook and/or memoir and/or children's poem?
LD, send it in! They like humour just as much as non-humour.

Possibly, since it was quite late in the submission period, 'not ... a good fit ' means it did not go well with other stories already accepted or close. Alternatively, maybe my fuzzy genre style did not go down well. I obviously thought it was a 'Lost' story or I would have spared myself the stress! The rejection was same day, which given the time difference is remarkable.
