Just, and exactly, 100 words! What a format!
Congratulations!

And a lesson for us all in the power of believing in a story and not giving up.
Yeah, actually both really hit around my birthday! It really felt affirming, even if dates are just for calendars.
But one of my "sales" is just an acceptance. Until a contract is signed, I call everything else Hollywood Talk!
I recommend a healthy scepticism.
I came out of Journalism and I got the skin of a rhino but once, going through editing, me accepting every suggestion, we got stuck when an editor insisted I had a character in old fashioned UNDERWEAR.
I said, jokingly, I happen to know that in the future, this style comes back. I pointed to a lot of old-schoolisms: martinis, bickering spouses, an absent minded professor that clearly set my story in a retro-future. But we couldn't come to terms over a woman wearing a slip!
Whatever. He had real specific ideas what kind of underwear she should have on. I eventually went with the generic "underwear" but he decided I wasn't cooperative and a story I'd already withdrawn from a couple other markets had to go back on the block.
@DonMarkmaker
@crlisle Congratulations! Clever story, and exactly 100 words! Wow, what a fiendishly challenging format, it's no mean feat to deliver a story in such a teeny-tiny word count, well done

I'm up on the Galaxy Press site as a guest blogger. Hey, It's a publication. I'll take it!
https://galaxypress.com/a-treasure-of-words/
Leave a comment if you read/like. The more they can see people are checking things out, the more likely you'll get to do a blog when your turn comes 'round. It was super fun and I love what they did with the images to my words.

@tj_knight nice article, and a lovely homage to (and advert for) past volumes and winners and the upcoming Vol 39. Now I'm looking forward to reading the story about an alien boy who plays with balls made of woven sticks!

My story 'Crescent Cross' has finally found its new life in The Dark Door magazine, a mixed-media print and e-publication classic-style pulp horror zine from a Canadian lo-fi hip-hop label (all of which is just, like, if this doesn't turn out to be the most unusual thing that ever prints me, then I have no idea what to think). It's not available for free, unfortunately, but you can snag a copy for $10 (same cost for physical, but you have to pay those pesky shipping fees).
I don't have my copy just yet (I got a contributor's electronic copy for free, but bought myself a physical one too because it's a zine, an actual zine, I thought these things had died and gone forever), but they sent photos, and I think it looks great!

Congratulations @doctorjest ! That's brilliant, and really cool. Reminds me of The Good Old Days™ that Stephen King started out in, with there being a load of indie printed zines. Are you allowed to share the title of the story?
I assume you're in the as-yet unreleased volume four? Make sure you come back here with a link when it's released!

In fact, no -- it's right there in this one, volume 3! Crescent Cross is the title of the story, and the zine can be picked up here -- https://illadvisedrecords.com/shop

I do like that a lot. To date, I have four hard-copy things with one of my stories in--two of those were print-on-demand publications. This is only the second truly native print-publication I've been in, and I'm really happy about it.
(Well...technically, that would climb up to a magnificent 5 if you counted really crappy poetry that got published in a newspaper when I was 17, which I certainly don't.)

I saw the email subject and assumed yet another form rejection, but no!
Small Gods and Little Demons has sold to Parsec, for somewhere in issues 8-11 (they'll let me know more).
This was my Q2 2021 (vol 38?) and got an SHM.
This is my very first sale and to a UK magazine (which means a lot to me because their offices are really not that far from me) and I'm absolutely buzzing.
ETA: They want a photo of me but I need a shower and shave first and I'm in the middle of having a new boiler fitted.
