Hey everyone! I won't say who it is, because I may as well not steal his fire, but rumor has it one of the folks of this forum just won the Jim Baen Memorial Short Story Contest! Woooooooooooooooooooo!
“Stories are the collective wisdom of everyone who has ever lived. Your job as a storyteller is not simply to entertain. Nor is it to be noticed for the way your turn a phrase. You have a very important job—one of the most important. Your job is to let people know that everyone shares their feelings—and that these feelings bind us. Your job is a healing art, and like all healers, you have a responsibility. Let people know they are not alone. You must make people understand that we are all the same.”

Smaller than the Baen Memorial, but I just sold a revised former HM to Heroic Fantasy Quarterly! It's something slightly out of their usual wheelhouse, so they told me, but they liked it enough to work on it with me to make a few changes, amp up a thing or two to make it a better fit, and they officially gave me the thumbs-up today. It's currently expected to be published in May, and will be free to read (and, perhaps, even listen to) on their website--I'll post a link here once it goes live.

Thanks, Spencer. It's officially posted now: https://www.baen.com/pr-jbmssaw2023
It was so long between informing me and the announcement that I was beginning to fear that they'd changed their mind. Like, maybe it dawned on them what a rank amateur they were dealing with. Regardless, it makes me very happy.
@bzelger Congratulations!!!

Only if I win the Baen fantasy contest too (except 2023?).
The SciFi contest goes to the International Space Development Conference.
