Anywhere But Earth available now. There are at least three of us from these forums that are on the TOC (Dame, Patty and myself) and at least three WOTF winners (Patty Jansen, Jason Fischer and Cat Sparks) - along with names such as Rob Hood, Margo Lanagan, Richard Harland, Kim Westwood - (plus many more)
An excellent anthology that is sure to win awards.....
Yeah, I know - I've mentioned this a few times - but it's just been reviewed on GoodReads (five stars) by the amazing Thoraiya Dyer (winner of Aurealis and Ditmar Awards, author of The Company Articles of Edward Teach) who had great things to say, not only about the anthology, but named my story as one of the top five.
‘Anywhere But Earth’ is a hearty meal to be digested slowly over days; weeks; months.
So take your time, and enjoy. The stories are diverse and consistently top-notch. Like last year’s ‘Sprawl’ and this year’s ‘ASIM #51’, none of the stories stand out as an obvious cull, and the potential for my least favourite to be someone else’s outstanding story of the year is obvious.
....
So what were my favourites?
Out of 29, there were 5 that made me huggle the book in sheer delight.
....
As for Steve Cameron’s ‘So Sad, The Lighthouse Keeper,’ I was looking forward to it all the way through, and had to make an effort not to skip ahead. You know about my tragic lighthouse obsession, right? Anyway, this story was even better than I’d hoped. The characterisations were spot-on and I found the structure and symmetry of the story incredibly satisfying.

Yay! - How thrilled am I? (Not bad for a story that was a straight reject from WoTF, hey?)

Ha, I see what you did there....
Anyways, not anything majorly noteful, but I achieved not only one, but two personal goals in this month. I just sent out my 25th story to market, meeting my goal of getting 25 stories out to market this year.
Also, I received my 100th rejection letter, another personal goal realized (meaning over 100 submissions to the market in total for the year). Some are looking more promising than others, as they are urging me to submit more work.
Looking back at what I was at the beginning of the year, all I can do is say
. Most of my submissions were between the months of March (when I received word about Q1) and now.

Congrats Michael on meeting your writing goals!
Also I saw that Grayson's story was going out tomorrow too. I was so excited to see a name I recognized!! Grayson, I can't wait to read your story tomorrow!! Also one of the winners from this year had her story appear on Friday too.

Thanks, Marina and Tina!
We were away this weekend; this is my first time at the forums since last Thursday. (I see evil little old Meghan has been causing all kinds of stress and distress over in the Q4 thread.) How nice to come back to people other than family members actually excited about my story coming out!
I, of course, am nervous as h*ll. Will be constantly checking the DSF Facebook page for comments. My first readers-who-don't-know-me feedback.

Wow Grayson!! What a great story! Original, well written, definitely one of the better ones that's come into my inbox since I've subscribed. I gave it all the dragon rockets I could. Congrats again!

Thanks so much, guys! This has been a very encouraging experience...I've gotten two e-mails and one blog comment from total strangers telling me how much they liked the story, plus some wonderful comments on the FB page. Wow...maybe I'm OK at this writing thing after all. Huh.

I was a wreck before my story came out at DSF. It's such an odd feeling to have writing go public. Frightening, and yet incredibly wonderful to connect with the world at large.
I've got something coming up at Strange Horizons next month. I've got pterodactyls in my stomach at this point.

I bet you do! What a coup. I'd love to sell to them. So far all I've managed to do is hit Jed Hartman's sore spots.
