Belated congratulations to everyone on this refreshingly long thread! And congrats most recently to Preston and Elinor.
Preston, getting artwork for a story is long been a dream of mine, it's one of the reasons Writers of the Future attracts me so much--so very cool!

My semi-finalist from 2011 is the featured short story of the month at Fireside Magazine! The issue went live this morning with a beautiful wonderful perfect illustration for my story by Hugo winner Galen Dara. Fireside is behind a paywall (alas), but subscriptions are available and you can also buy individual issues. The website is here: http://firesidefictioncompany.com/

Mine will be in the February issue, I think, but it's just a flash piece, so I don't get any of that lovely Dara artwork. A friend of mine will in March, though, and his story is jealousy-inducing.
I'll give your story a read later, since I am about to leave work.
Congrats again!

Congrats to Jennifer, Preston, and anyone I've missed recently.
OK, when I was cleared to go public with this news, I thought about Facebook. I thought about my blog.
But first, first, first, I thought about all my friends here, because you've been cheering me on since the beginning. So you're the ones I'm telling first. (Well, almost first. Hi, Tina!)
Gardner Dozois wants "Murder on the Aldrin Express" for Year's Best Science Fiction Vol. 31.
I'm stunned. I can't sleep. I keep going back to the email to make sure it's real.
Thank you all for the encouragement. It really made a difference!
(I just checked my email. It's still there...

Congrats Martin! That's wonderful news.

WOW! MARTIN!
Congrats!

That is totally off the charts in terms of bucket list and totally deserved!
You know, when I first beta read that story I thought, "this is one damn cool idea," and I admit more than once I wish I'd thought of it, lol.
I've certainly never forgotten it. So it seems totally appropriate that Gardner should pick it, it just confirms what I've always heard, he's an idea man, and that story is a brilliant idea story.
And of course, I have no such restraint as Rebecca when it comes to the smilies. Celebration!
