I've been sitting on this one for a loooong time now, because I hadn't received/signed the actual contract, but I just sent in the contract for Part One today, so I think it's okay finally put this in a public place. One of my WotF straight rejections will be appearing Cricket magazine. It's going to be serialized into three issues, and the first part will be in the February 2015 issue.
This is a story that I absolutely adore and was depressed when it got a form rejection here at the contest, but this is a good example of stories needing to find the correct market. Cricket is a children's magazine. Writers of the Future is not. This story really wasn't a good fit here. But Cricket? I am so excited!

YEEEEHAAAAA!!!!! And Cricket is a tough market to crack. They want good stories aimed at kids. A lot of people can do one or the other, but not both.
Congratulations!

Thanks so much, everybody!
And Martin, you're right about it being difficult to write both a good story and a story directed at children. I honestly didn't even consider that the story was a children's story for a long time. I mean sure, it has child protagonists, but I wasn't thinking about targeting that audience when I wrote it. It was just a story that I loved.
Is it February yet?

Yeah, still doesn't feel real. Even after the acceptance, check, various emails, etc. I kept expecting EQMM to say, "Oops, we made a mistake, you don't belong here."
Too late now! ![]()
Now, I'm hoping to sell them another story. Sent in a followup story to the one I sold. Figure selling in the same series is easier than a whole new idea.
