@pegeen thanks for the kind words of encouragement, :). I figured it was time to get into the website game. I have my second blog post scheduled for March 15 and am looking into the best way to do newsletters [which I plan to do once a month]. It's fun to learn new things.@physa Very nice website!

Hi there,
I've added everyone from this thread that I could, on FB and Twitter. It would be great if anyone has the time to add me back. Never been one to linger on social media before and I only just set them both up. Thought it was about time I got with the times. Sweaty palms from just sharing these links 🤣

Fair warning: It isn't listed anywhere in their written rules, but Facebook's algorithms really hate people using a human face on a Facebook page, rather than a profile, as you're doing.
In my case, it got my account repeatedly shut down, until I replaced the photo with my publishing mark. Pages are intended to be used for things like businesses and yes, pen names do count as such, but their brainless, automated system will flag your account over and over for breaking rules, when you're actually not and their support staff will ignore you when you try to ask why, because they don't care.
If you want to read more about what happened to me, visit my blog (posts in reverse chronological order): https://owentyme.us/blog/tag_social-media.html
In short, I strongly recommend you swap out your photo for something else, before they flag your account.
Thanks for the follow!
Released novels, available for purchase: Troll Song and Forgotten Legends. More books are on the way, waiting only for cover art.
Hey all! I wrote a blog post where I discuss a few of my experiences at the Writers of the Future workshop. In short, it was an amazing experience, but I go into some of the details from a first person perspective. https://www.jeschleicher.com/dopaminesdelight/e4jctb4rf21zz3szijlhzlnjd5iaas

@tj_knight Thanks! And I look forward to hearing the firsthand accounts from others in the forum, who will surely find their way to Hollywood (or pro-out, so also a win). Here, I found community, inspiration, and insight about the contest. I'm grateful. Keep writing & submitting, y'all! Can't wait to read your stories in future volumes!

@jeschleicher Thanks for posting! I really enjoyed your blog. For the curious, I also typed up my experiences (though not so entertainingly well or visually gripping). You can find it on my Substack(free, no pressure to subscribe).

I'm writing a new, regular newsletter on Substack related to writing, with a focus on a creative writing MFA program (with genre fiction concentration) that I'm starting this month. I'm documenting my MFA journey in real time, so subscribe if that sounds of interest to you.

And if you sign up to my newsletter (zero pressure/judgment) you will get a free eBook of 'Ashes to Ashes, Blood to Carbonfiber.' The newsletter is unobtrusive/monthly so as not to fill up inboxes, and will include a round-up of speculative fiction I've found/enjoyed over the previous month, and a tiny bit of my writing news at the bottom.

“Stories are the collective wisdom of everyone who has ever lived. Your job as a storyteller is not simply to entertain. Nor is it to be noticed for the way your turn a phrase. You have a very important job—one of the most important. Your job is to let people know that everyone shares their feelings—and that these feelings bind us. Your job is a healing art, and like all healers, you have a responsibility. Let people know they are not alone. You must make people understand that we are all the same.”

I made a "SpecFic Short Story Writers" Starter Pack on Bluesky if anyone here would like adding? I've added a fair few of you already:

I struggled to keep up with the admin after creating it yesterday! So the easiest way for me to add you is a reply here: https://bsky.app/profile/alexharford.bsky.social/post/3lb2yax3ydc2k
If you haven't joined Bluesky already, it seems now's the time, with loads of writers, editors, and publishers swapping it for that platform formerly known as Twitter.
