I thought I would add to this discussion since I seem to be in the same place as Ishmael, including having a cover made for a novel. I don't know his sales(mine are lousy) or how many stories he(you) have put out, but I could have written almost what he did.

Except that I'm not sure what you mean by profile--how many books out?

And doesn't Amazon have two levels of publishing? One is exclusive to them, with a %70 to the author and the other is open but only has %35 rate to the writer.

And I found this book I thought would be helpful to us all.

What? No. You get 35% if you are priced under 2.99 or above 9.99. 70% if you are priced 2.99-9.99. Nothing to do with Kindle Select, which is what you are in if you chose it and want to be exclusive to Amazon. Royalty % has nothing to do with if you are in Select or not, only with pricing.

If you want a good crash course in self-publishing, I highly recommend this book: http://www.amazon.com/Lets-Get-Digital- ... 005DC68NI/

Other really good books on the subject are: http://www.amazon.com/Publish-Repeat-No ... 00H26IFJS/ and http://www.amazon.com/Indie-Author-Surv ... 00FLJXNOU/

I'd skip Kris Rusch's book, personally. Not a good guide at all in my opinion and experience.

My first short story collection is available for preorder on both Amazon and Smashwords.

It will be released on April 2nd.

The anthology includes ten stories about cursed alien artifacts, interstellar investment banking, ancient alien astronauts, parallel timelines, alien experimentation, and space colonization gone horribly wrong.

Four of the stories in this anthology were Honorable Mentions in the Writers of the Future Contest.

Since I will be coming out with a new Indie book soon and am working on a third one plus a couple of story sets I thought it might be time to have a separate website just for the book. One I would be either able to sell books from or be able to directly link to the sites that sell them.

I used to know of a couple places to go for such web sites but my tried old brain seems to have forgotten them.

So any suggestions? Low cost places?

I said I would be coming out with the new book soon. That depends on the person doing the cover. Right now it looks like I will have to be getting a new person.

I haven't e-published anything new of late, but I did just change the bulk of my stories on Amazon to KDP Select, which means that they're free to borrow if you're a subscriber to Kindle Unlimited (I think).

Most of these stories were previously published in other markets, so you may have seen them before, but if anyone is interested, you can find them here: Rebecca Birch's Amazon Page.

I'm excited to announce the release of the first book in my new series, The Dashkova Memoirs called Revolutionary Magic!

The Dashkova Memoirs is a new series along the lines of the Dresdin Files or Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, filled with myths of the ancient world. Book two, A Cauldron of Secrets, will be available on May 12th, and the third book, Birds of Prophecy, will follow a few weeks later.

Exile. Princess. Thief.

After years of running from the Emperor of Russia’s assassins, Ekaterina “Kat” Dashkova has finally found an unlikely home in Philadelphia under the tutelage of Benjamin Franklin.

When a mid-level government official is found wandering colonial Philadelphia without his clothes—and his last two years of memories—Ben and Kat suspect otherworldly forces at work. Neither of them know that a dark revolution lurks beneath the veneer of civilization, ready to unleash its malevolent magic unless Kat makes a grim sacrifice.

Revolutionary Magic is the first book of The Dashkova Memoirs historical fantasy series.

Get it now on Amazon for only $0.99.

Downloaded the book and am looking forward to reading it. (Already read the first page, and love that you mixed with humor with adventure.)

Your cover artist designed a compelling cover. Did they capture the look of your characters that you held in your mind.

Will let you know what I think in a few days. (I'm a fast reader - sometimes I feel I should be a professional reader. It is my greatest skill and joy).

.

Close enough. But I wasn't worried about matching the picture of Katerina in my head. First and foremost, it had to be a cover that intrigued readers, and it does that in spades. The worst thing a writer can do is try to tell the story with the cover. That's not what it's for--it's a sales tool.

The cover designer was Ravven, for those interested. She's not taking new contracts though.

Okay you got me hooked enough to take a closer look.
There are other e-books on this thread I have thought about getting, even have bought two I think, but this one with it's cover and blurb is too intriguing, I will need to take a closer look.

And if it bears out as I think there are a couple of places on Google + I would like to share it at.
And BTW Thomas It's Dresden Files

While I am here and signed in it's time to do this:

I revised my book somewhat. I had to go back over the files to replace some misspelled words and too many commas. While I was at it I also ended up redoing a few sentences here and there.

So I am presenting it again.

It's Urban Fantasy along the lines of Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden files, Laura Anne Gilman's Cosa Nostradamus series(yes that is plural) and C. E. Murphy's Walker Papers.

Exciting adventures, deadly encounters, mythical creatures A MC who finds herself over her head in trouble because a certain geas thinks she can stop a terrible event from happening all in Boulder Col.

"Above My Pay GradeX2" at Amazon and Barnes and Noble, smashowrds.com and CreateSpace.

Still can't do the picture thing here.

And now I've released book two of The Dashkova Memoirs: A Cauldron of Secrets! It's now on Amazon for $2.99.

Ignorance is bliss, unless the world is out to kill you...

An investigation into a strange cauldron and a dead thief in Ben Franklin's parlor leaves Katerina Dashkova, Russian princess in exile, as the main suspect. With her memory damaged and Ben Franklin missing, Kat must navigate the treacherous waters of American politics to solve the mystery while ominous rumblings threaten to drag the country into a new war.

Book three and four will be coming out in the next few weeks to next month.

Finished "Revolutionary Magic". Thank you Thomas K for a great read. Here are a couple of my favorite paragraphs of yours because they move the story along in an elegant way:

"...The caress of dirty, brown water slid past while the lantern rocked with the surges of the current. The river was much colder than the city, and I listened to Ben's explanation with my arms cinched around my chest, smelling the sea air tainting the wind."

"...the trill of her voice wrapping vines around my mind, pulling at my neck to lift up so I could see."

Already posted on Amazon and have purchased and am currently reading "A Cauldron of Secrets " - which I love even more!

Cindi

PS I am a reading/writing enthusiast rather than a pure writer. (my stories are written for YA or younger I keep jury rigging them for the contest, which I'm sure is a bad idea.)
