I've enjoyed what I've read so far by Brad and Annie, and I'll keep moving down the list. Meanwhile I figure I'll toss my hat in the ring, starting with the Kindle version of my novella The Aberration. I entered an early version of this in the contest, but the fantasy aspect was a stretch. It's much more of a horror story, so it got the expected boot. But if you get a chance, check it out at the affordable .99 price. Hope you enjoy...

Thanks. It was actually quite easy to design. I purchased to rights to the stock photo, and used the cover creator on Createspace while publishing the printed version. I'm not all the techno savvy, but I fake like I know what I'm doing wotf011

Hey guys! I've just put two shorts on amazon and smashwords. Both were WotF Honorable Mentions, and both are novel excerpts, self-contained chapters, of my military-themed, post-apocalyptic novel, Shadow Gate, first in a trilogy, which I will be proverbially taking with me to the WotF workshop this coming week. (Well, technically, the second short is from Book 2). I figured now would be the best time to get them out in the open. I've rendered the cover art on both. Enjoy! Here is the first:

Short Description: In post-apocalyptic 2513, the Shadowmen Faction is harvesting Clanswomen for their breeding program, but fighter Lysanda Turienn and several other POWs have a secret weapon to help them escape.

Extended Description: After the Killshot super solar flare decimated civilization, the survivors banded into the Thirteen United Clans. 250 years after the Event, a faction of telepathic warriors called the Shadowmen have broken from the Union, and they're harvesting Clanswomen for their breeding program. . . . But fighter Lysanda Turienn isn't about to let them continue. She and the other desperate women she's been apprehended with have a secret. They only hope it won't kill everyone.

Okay, and here is the second short:

Short Description: FAST Commander Wolf's trip into omniscience comes with an unexpected personal cost, when he utilizes an illicit technology to pry into Collective Consciousness in his quest to research the war between the Thirteen United Clans and the Shadowmen Faction.

Extended Description: It is an AVATAR of the Net, an Astral-Virtual Analog Thought-Analysis Redoubt. An illicit technology that allows its user to interface with the Grid of Collective Human Consciousness. And FAST Commander Wolf has been bequeathed its transducer from his late subordinate, Lysanda Turienn, so that he might research the clandestine cogs of the war the Thirteen United Clans are fighting against the telepathic Shadowmen Faction. But Wolf's trip into omniscience may come with an unexpected personal cost too hard to bear.

Thanks Scott and Annie! My goal was to get them up before my flight out to the WotF workshop week. Whew! Yes, and I can still make a personal deadline (hard, hard, hard). Now I only have 7 more stories lined up needing cover art <sigh> wotf007 . Unless I write MORE short stories, lol!

P.S. Annie, you continue to be an inspiration for the e-pub thing wotf011 .

I hate saying goodbye, especially when it's with a character I loved writing about. Unfortunately, all good stories must come to an end. But I'm still proud to be announcing the final book in my Gamers trilogy -- Coders.

http://thomaskcarpenter.com/2012/04/09/new-release-coders/

When Gabby infiltrates the Southlands, reality becomes a dangerous game.

Desperate to reach Zaela before war erupts, Gabby takes a chance that puts her life in peril. She asks the Coders to send her into the Southlands as a spy, a request she quickly regrets. Now she faces a new enemy, one that knows everything about her and exposes her weaknesses in a game for her life. But before she can win, Gabby must wrestle with old wounds and finally come to grips with the person she was meant to be.

The novel can be purchased by e-book for $6.99 at:

Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Coders-Gamers-3-ebook/dp/B007SGCE58/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1334016195&sr=1-14

Also, got a map made for the series. It's pretty.

True that! That map is as beautiful as any illustration, and about 100x cooler than most maps I've seen in books! It's stand-alone stunning!

Hi, all!

I have my very first short on Amazon. They're so cute when they're little! And they're even cuter when they're FREE.
The story will be free Thursday and Friday, April 26 and 27. Please download to your heart's content, sent copies to your friends and congresspersons, etc.

And should anyone feel motivated to review, tag, or 'like,' so much the better.

I'm probably going to rework this one, but this is my latest:

What do you do when you're all alone in the night and millions of miles from home? Security Chief Janet Bryer made a costly mistake that sent her as far away from Earth as her superiors could manage and she's miserable. Low gravity, crummy food, and a horrible death behind every bulkhead makes her hate life. Stuck on Ganymede Station, a veritable retirement community, Janet didn't think her life could get any worse.

Until she found one of her officers dead in her office.

With a mad man hunting her down, she'll have to learn about her new home and trust people she regards as strangers to stay alive. Will the people she dismissed and ignored trust her enough to keep her safe? Or will this be her downfall?

This is a spin off from one of my others: http://www.amazon.com/Cybergenesis-ebook/dp/B005VWYX7I/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1335373526&sr=8-5

The blurb has me sold, Amanda; but if I didn't know you and hadn't read the blurb, my eyes would've passed right over that cover without even recognizing that this was my kind of book. Sorry.

Thanks for the pointer, Martin. I'm not the best at covers and trying to find something that "fit" was especially difficult.

Unfortunately, I agree with Martin. It looks amateurish to me (I hate having to say that! but I want you to succeed). I think that may be largely the fault of the fonts. Also, it's so dark I thought she was wrapped in a fur coat, or something, and only after staring for a little while did I see the planets.

And, while I'm gaily stomping on you (sigh), I think the word you want is "madman" (unless you mean a literal angry man).

I do think the blurb is great, though!

Much madness is divinest sense, to a discerning eye; much sense, the starkest madness. (Emily Dickinson)
