Darn it, Mike! I'm supposed to be reading Hugo nominees, and now you're tempting me to stuff more titles into my Kindle queue!
If I don't give up writing, I will finish my Kindle backlog at around 2132. That's a year, not a time.
If I give up writing, it will probably be around 2112...

I guess I'd have to hold my own pity party for people who didn't win and aren't eligible. Think KJA would come?

You can be our Guest of Honor! You're officially too good for the contest.
Of course, if you drag KJA along with you, we might have to make him First Runner Up Guest of Honor...

The Outpost has been ordered, should have it Tuesday next week. Plenty of time to read it before Chicon 7.
I try to use cons as a way to force me to read wider, otherwise I'll just read the authors over and over.
Thank you, Mist....Mike

I'd also like to point out that there are WAY fewer people who have pro'd out rather than won. And I'd wager a healthy amount that the ratio of successful pro'd out people compare to the winners is much higher.

I suspect you're right. Pro'ing out requires mastering the skills, patience, and work ethic necessary to sustain a career. Although most winners worked hard to get there, winning can strike out of the blue. Pro'ing out can't. Plus sometimes when people hit a big goal like winning, they feel satisfied, and they stop. Pro'ing out takes more persistence than that.

Me and my crew are arriving on Aug 29th , the day before the con starts so we can hopefully pick up badges at early reg and get settled in. Anyone else showing up early? Might be a good evening for an informal get together under the hotels.

I'm about an hour away and will be taking the train in during the day on Thursday.
If you're going to walk around the city, bring good walking shoes. The architecture and scenery is really lovely and you'll find yourself a long way from the hotel with aching feet... 😉

Got my prospective panel lineup last night. 7 panels, and the author mega-signing with Mike Resnick and his collaborators; myself as the pee wee junior-most among them.
Looking forward to it!
Coming up: "Life Flight," in
Coming up: "The Chaplain's War," from
Nebula, Hugo, and Campbell nominee.

I know at least 3 Writers of the Future will be at Chicon, because they're among the dozen or so of
what Maureen McHugh calls "Mike's Writer Children" (some of whom are almost as old as Mike) that
I'll be treating to brunch on Sunday.

My program schedule got a bit messed up (double scheduling some things, etc), so I don't know my exact panels yet. I'll do a blog post when I do. I hope I get to stay on the panel I was on with Brad. That one would be a hoot.
I know at least 3 Writers of the Future will be at Chicon . . .
Mike, I think the former winners will number more like three dozen. I spotted 19 in a quick scan of the list of program participants, and at least another dozen in the list of registered members (although some of those could be supporting members).

And there will even be at least one Loser of the Future. Hi!
My probably final but subject to change schedule is posted here: http://overactive.wordpress.com/2012/08 ... -schedule/ . I also have a workshop section on Friday, I think, so I'll have some victims to crit.

I'm talking about -my- Writer Children, who total 3 from here, not L. Ron's.

So am I correct in thinking that all of these are open to any Worldcon member who wishes to attend, then?
For example, can anybody who wants to listen in on "Writing the SF Novelette" just show up?
