So am I correct in thinking that all of these are open to any Worldcon member who wishes to attend, then?

You are correct Alex. These panel discussion are the heart of the reason I love WorldCons. Some people love the parties, but I am a panel dude.
These panels run during the day, and they are open to all members. There are a few closed events, like the writing workshops, and some parties, but for the most part it's walk in and take part.
You can learn a lot at the panels, I always try to mic my panel select between science, writing, and then things just for fun.

Thanks, Laurie... Now I have to rejuggle my whole schedule. I completely forgot there's an Apollo Command Module practically right next door to the convention. I have a goal to visit every Command Module, and that one's my "maybe": I can't remember if I've seen it or not! If I did, it was over 30 years ago.

I've visited 7 (Dallas), 9 (Jackson, MI -- but San Diego STOLE IT FROM US, so I've visited it there, too), 11 (DC -- I finally got to see it at the ISDC!), 13 (Hutchinson, KS -- yes, Kansas), 14 (Titusville, FL), 15 (Dayton, OH), 16 (Huntsville, AL), and Skylab 4 (also DC). Once I confirm 8 in Chicago, I'll have 6, 10, 12, 15, 17, Apollo-Soyuz, and Skylabs 2 and 3 to go. 10 will take some doing, since it's in London!

Laurie, the Field Museum is the finest natural history museum in the world. The Museum of
Science and Industry is for kids.

Makes no difference anyway. You're going to be much too busy schmoozing editors and
publishers to take time off for sight-seeing.

You want we should think about, as a group that is, a dinner for a meat-up, because I doubt we'll find a slot free of panels that no one wants to attend.

Yup my typos are amusing. My gaming buddies will never let me forget the Buffy The Vampire Slayer game I ran that had Hello Hounds in it.
When you get your con materials at registration the con book will have panel descriptions that will help you make those tough calls. A good hint for making those calls is once you start learning which authors and guests are fun on panels is to use that as a tie-breaker.

Love the Hello Hounds! that's awesome. Last night I told the world via facebook that my novel was going to write itself. (Instead of not writing itself) which actually prompted a story idea.

The autograph sessions are listed by number (location on the far left side of the page).

The session numbers refer to the list of authors at the bottom of the sheet. Look slightly up in the same column and you'll find the time/author slot.

generally the signups for the Kaffeeklatch is done at the convention, usually the day of 'kltach at the information or registration desk. The infomation for ChiCon 7 is going to be in the con programming book. If you want a very popular writer, show up early as they fill up fast.

Autograph sessions are usually in a specified area, also listed in the con book. (last year in reno it was in the dealers room, but its up to each con hwo that sort it all out.)

OK, Evil Martin aside: the Michigan Space and Science Center closed down, so there was no way we could keep it. But it still annoys me, because I used to be able to drop in and make a pilgrimage several times a year. Now I can't. Grrr...

Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry has the only WW2-era u-boat on display in the entire United States. Kids museum or not, I'm visiting it and taking pictures. I'll find some time somewhere, maybe half a day in the morning when all the night owls are asleep. Goodness knows if I'll ever be in Chicago again.
