I feel like an IDIOT!
At WorldCon, at least as recently as last year, there is a thing called the VooDoo board. It's a corkboard witha listing of all the registered memebrs and a set of car catalog type boxes, slips of paper, and push-pins. You can leave message for each other by slipping a noted into the right part of catalog (based on names) and then sticking a push pin into the board next to the person's name so that they can see that they have a waiting message.
It's how con goers did things before cell phones....

Ha! I was about to say, I'm sure I recall similar systems at events I've been to back in the Cretaceous era. That is so typical of science fiction. After all, the top-selling magazine in our field is still called Analog! Ha!

Don't feel like an idiot. I know about it too, but since everyone knows me under my maiden/writing name, no one knows my real name except for a select few.

I say breakfast on Saturday.

It looks like the Codex group is meeting Saturday. Let's do it Friday morning then. That way we can all meet up earlier and have more people we know. Would a 10am or 9am breakfast be preferred?

9AM for me, I think. 10 would be okay too, but I'd like to get an early start.

I could do breakfast at 9 or 10 on Friday. Will miss out on the Philip K. Dick panel, but no biggie. It's not like Dick--or his android simulacrum--will be there taking questions. Probably.

Let's call it 9am then. That shouldn't be too early. Once we get there on Thursday we can figure out where we want to meet and post it in this thread.

The con has not yet confirmed it, but it is likely that the hotel will have a breakfast buffet for the convention and that will make a pretty good spot in my opinion.

My workshop section is at 10am on Friday, so 9am is better for me, too. I'll probably have to just drop by and say hello before running off, but it would be cool to put faces to names

Friday still wouldn't work for Martin. And I've got committments on Saturday/Sun/Monday at 9am.

What about dinner?

- Friday night 730pm?
- Saturday night dinner? 6pm?

If we can't get one time to work with everyone, we could always have two times open so that everyone gets included in at least one. Like, we keep the Thursday night one, and then add a Sunday breakfast or something or the dinner...?

Though I suppose I could eat twice . I agree that one meeting time is impossible. Something very late night may work as well on Fri or Sat. They'd have to make it a little more boring and relaxing for that, I think...

Ben Bova tells of a writing conference / cruise one time with a lot of big names back in the day. Festivities all day and all night. But in the morning if you walked down the writers' hall, you heard typewriters working from every room except one. That was Asimov's room, and Isaac was writing in longhand.

I also swear I heard the story from Mike Resnick, Sarah Hoyt, and Dean Wesley Smith of writing being done at major cons.

In my case, I have a deep space murder mystery to finish. When Stan asks, "Do you have anything new to look at?" I want to answer "Yes!" So if I don't finish it by then, I'll be writing. And if I DO finish it by then, I've already figured out a prequel that's even better!

Inspiration is one of the major reason I go to worldon as much as I can. I hardly write there, but my notefile come back with all sorts of ideas to work on.
I too like the two meet ups, thought I like the idea of one breakfast and one dinner.

So how's this:

Meetup Option 1: Thursday 7:30pm after the Short Story as Testing Ground (Brad & Annie's) Panel. Suggesting meeting by the room - schedule shows it to be McCormick. Meet then make a plan for dinner.

Meeting Option 2: Breakfast. I wont' be able to make this one due to morning committments, so whoever is interested, make a suggestion, however based on people's comments Sunday is looking to be be better than Saturday for workshop/other breakfast meetings.

I am not on that panel (I'm on one with Brad on Sat), but I'll totally come to the panel and be around afterward on Thurs (I get into the Con around 5:30-6pm on Thurs).

I can't get Thursday off at all; but if I can get some hours ahead, I could conceivably make Chicago by 12:30 Friday!
