I have good news and bad news.
The good news is that I have accepted a position as Associate Editor at Apex Magazine. It's a thrilling opportunity to work with a Hugo nominated editor at a pro publication I admire a great deal.
The bad news is that this position, in addition with a recent increase in the number of people who have asked for critiques from me, makes it impossible to get my own writing done some days. I'm in two critique groups and have to do my slushing for Apex as well - plus, you know, raising my kids and stepping away from computers occasionally. As a result, I have to change my policy of accepting unlimited critique requests. I hate to do it, and have been putting it off for months, but I just don't have time.
I will, instead, be available for five critiques each calendar month - to the first five individuals who contact me. I considered all sorts of equalizing measures for new people vs people I've already critiqued etc, but in the end, that would just add time in trying to figure out where everyone stands. It's simpler to do first come, first served. In addition, if you've already gotten a crit from me for the quarter, priority will be given to people who haven't.

Totally understood. This is what has to happen as your workload increases. Something has to give to make room for the new. Glad you are able to work for a pro magazine, Becky. But I’m also glad you’ve found a way to still help aspiring writers here, but with necessary limits. Thank you for all the good work you’ve done, and continue to do. Best of success at Apex!
