I was looking at the Contest Winners Anthology and saw the most recent one is 2020 and has the winners listed for all 4 quarters. How are the Anthologies put together? 2020 fourth quarter hasn’t even started yet. The submission deadline is the end of September. When did the people listed as the 2020 fourth quarter winners actually win their contest?

Thanks!

Ah, the game's afoot, Shoesan, lol. The Judges haven't even announced Quarter 3. Either, 1) The information is inaccurate; 2) You've got the wrong year Anthology; 3) Someone traveled backward in time to the year 2020 (God alone knows why anyone would do this) and brought back the "winners."

If it's the third choice, please enlighten us with the names posted in the "Contest Winners Anthology" to alleviate any future twitching, lol.

Best,

Retro

The books are published the year after the contest runs - so the 12 winners from this year will be published in the 2021 anthology. That's all.

Thanks for the answer. I figured that would probably be it, but just didn’t want to believe they’d call it the 2020 Anthology when all the stories were 2019. Thought there might be some other explanation.

Usually they’re titled by the volume number - this is Volume 36. The stories being written and winning this year will go into volume 37. Where did you see it called the 2020 anthology?

Okay, I see where the confusion comes from. That's the volume published in 2020, but it's also Volume 36. We're currently submitting for next year's publication, Volume 37, which will be out in 2021.

Yeah, and now I notice that the cover of the book doesn’t say 2020, just the label underneath it. That makes more sense. I think it would still be clearer if it was labeled 2019, since that’s when the stories were written (or at least submitted). But at least the book covers don’t say 2020.

I would have to say this page make the confusion even more confusing...

That's still the winners from last year--we're entering for 2021 right now.
