Gonna try for 1k a day (Real life allowing and only counting words in the current novel, anything else such as plotting and editing other things will be deemed extra).

1042 today, so just managed it.

Twinsies! Oh wait, there's a k there. I'm aiming for at least 1 word a day, myself. We're basically the same though...

Unless @pdblake meant one letter 'k' a day Smile

@ease Oof, that is so very relatable, thank you for sharing! It is both comforting and sad to know these thoughts are universal.

I try to focus on the progress I can see in my writing from story to story, but sometimes that's not enough, and I fall into The Rut. And then I climb out again because even if I really was The Absolute Worst, I wouldn't want to stop writing.

Ha. Failure already. First day back at work and I'm knackered. No words today so I'll reset the target to 30k for the month. At least that way I have a fighting chance of catching up.

I didn't do a lot today...kind of ended up watching Black Summer...which is okay-ish. It's just a lot of zombie noises.

I did write 4k-ish words today on my Q2 though, so I'm going to finish the first draft of my Q2 soon.

Honestly your poor day is better than my good. I wrote 100 words yesterday and was happy with that.

Heya everyone! I've just posted my 2025 objectives in the monthly accountability thread. I've started okay, I think.

On day 3 of the year, I've already submitted twice. I'm also deep in edits to tighten a 1.4k piece into a flash fiction for a themed flash contest. I have 3 sci-fi pieces of around 8k that need editing as well, and I've started the rewriting of a 1.5k post-apocalyptic shopping list (don't ask, haha).

really smashing it @pdblake !!

I'm going to send a shout out to @annax but only because she asked to be bugged here for updates on the Aspirant thread!

My own update for today is I took the 822 word flash piece I started yesterday, and added about the same to bring it up to 1646 words, before then editing it down to 999 words.

Not getting the word count some of you are, or even close to that, but working at it. Struggling to fix an old story (like nearly two decades ago) I loved and apply concepts I've learned over the last couple of years. One section it was easier just to read it and then rewrite it from scratch.  So, do those count as new words?  Smile If so, add 1k words for this month's count.

Yes! Thank you!

So far, I've got 13k-ish words written, including a new Q2 that I need to work on. My goals are going pretty well so far. I do hope to finish my Q2 by next week so I can work on Resnick and on the "different genre" which might be western. Who knows? I might do a good job with cowboys and indians. grinning

@gideonpsmith Honestly, I am stressed and anxious and kind of hate everything I write at the moment. (Would be nice to know if others get these seasons too?)

Everything I have ever written has simulataneously been the best thing I could possibly write, and the worst shit 'written' by any idiot ever. Even while I was at the WotF workshop, JLN had to give me a talking-to about being negative about my piece in V40.

Reminds me of a quote I collected from a podcast years ago, said by a guest you may have heard of.

"My writing process is to sit there like any other writer, simultaneously convinced that what I'm writing Shakespeare would be envious of and it's the worst crap ever produced." - Orson Scott Card

long day at work (5am till 7pm) , but ended up attending online writers group, then after wrote 227 words (mostly rubbish), then edited that down to a more decent 100 words.

Very slow on new words, but it was expected as I focus on edits. Got a few pieces (re)edited and I could get 6 submissions out in the first week. I still need to work on the draft zero of some longer pieces + the re-edit of 3 smallish pieces that came back from crits. I started a sci-fi flash but it's already at 2k and still going lol.

The highlight for me, so far, is the trimming down of a 8k sci-fi to under 5k. This definitely opens so many more markets for this story. And to be fair, it was a good idea to tighten it.

I hope you all doing well hearts

I am roughly 14k words in. Started Q2, although changing a ton of it around, so it's basically a new story (again). I'm taking a break for the weekend because I have a few things I need to finish first. Next week starts some pretty exclusive "me time" so I will have uninterrupted time to focus on writing. I'm looking forward to it.

Happy new year, everyone!

This is from yesterday, posted in the wrong thread (duh):

1339 today to give a total of 9421 for the month so far, despite the fact (or maybe to spite the fact) that my PTSD has me climbing the walls for some reason.

Anyway, time to try to chill out and breathe a bit.

This weeks been a bit of a rejectolanche so a little depressing but its part of writing so I'm trying to keep my head above water. After a couple of days with few creative words coming out of my brain, I was pleased that yesterday earned me a little over 4k words. Today has so far not been as productive, but also not a complete loss. We will see where todays total lands.

Sunday morning update: So yesterday ended up at 750 words on a new flash (near complete but not a great story), 109 words on another new flash (not complete, but a better idea than the first one), and 700 words towards the q2 I had started working on Friday, for a total of around 1.5k

Not as big a dent as I had hoped foe the q2. We'll see what today brings. Smile

Hows everyone elses weekends going? Let us know, good or bad, writing productive or just recharging!
