No writing. I did finish slushing the 2nd round for flash fiction online. So lots of reading. I did submit a flash piece to Uncanny (dare to dream, right?!?) lol. And I did upload a new headshot to my webpage www.gideonpsmith.com and updated my bio on there.
Goal for the week is to submit some more stuff. Maybe thats too ambitious - let's make it singular. Submit ONE more piece this week. Let's see if I can do that....

So this the proof of the pudding as far as the value of goals - hadn't submitted anything in ages. Made that my goal. Made it small and attainable. And last night was inspired to immediately fulfill it and get it out the way - so I did. I submitted a piece!
And then in the grand tradition of late night TV commercials 'If you act now, you get not just ONE submission, but a SECOND submission absolutely free!
That's right. I submitted two things 😉
Ok, goal for the rest of the week: editing a story I have been meaning to send to Beneath Ceaseless Skies and send it off.
This is a bigger ask of myself, so we'll see how this one goes.....

Thank you! (and thanks for posting here!) I just got a CW rejection back yesterday at 2 days. Pretty standard with them. I think longest I may have lasted with them is 2 weeks, but good luck to you too.
Whats the manuscript? Any specific daily/weekly/short term goals attached to it?

The manuscript is a fantasy thriller novel. At a recent conference, a well-established writer suggested that instead of revising my series (five manuscripts) right now, it would be good to have "something else" in case someone asks, "what else do you have?" Can't pitch book two if book one isn't a good fit. So, working on getting that written. I want to be able to pitch it this summer, which, in short term goals, means 2k per day. 😜 I've been pretty consistent this past month, just need to keep the pace till mid-June.Good luck with your sub to Khoreo. Sounds like a solid plan - I wrote 4 novels so far, each termed 'stand alone with series potential' 🤣
But I haven't written any next in series given I don't think its worthwhile unless one of the book 1's get picked up
2k/day is a steep goal and would be so infrequently managable for me, I would probably fail early on. I hope you have a set time for writing as that may help if its truly part of the routine

wrote a blog post for my webpage today. Couple people had asked me how I got non-fiction pieces published in SFWA and BSFA and the answer is fairly straightforward - I asked! lol. But anyway, as people seemed to want more specific direction on it I wrote a blog post on how to pitch non-fic so thats up in case anyones interested (my website is in my sig). but really just reporting here as thats what I achieved today!

I just finished a rewrite of an old SHM. It doesn't seem to have the same emotional punch as the first time. I'll give it some space and look at it again. I might just need to add how the character feels. It's seems a little clinical right now, as though the author were just trying to get the plot done. Which he was.

Just moved to a new city, so my mission/goal this week is to try a different cafe every day with the hopes of finding the perfect writing cafe 😉
I know... small goals!
I have so far tried two. The first one was almost perfect - lots of different chair types, some comfy, and at tables, not hovering that you finish up and go, had decent wifi, not overpriced, close to my house.... but the coffee sucked. Absolutely vile. So bad I poured it away, and have come here to cafe #2 for the day. This one twice as far, seating looked comfortable but is uncomfortable after 5 minutes. Wifi good, but all overpriced and hover, come asking what else I want to order to continue sitting here. The Coffee itself? Delicious. I barely even like coffee and I can tell this coffee is good. Sigh. Neither good for writing though.
