They delayed the anthology release as well, so really, there's no way to know. I'm also hoping for earlier results, but who knows.

I hope it's okay to do this. Yes Mr. H, there is a fee. As Joni says though, it will be worth it to attend the virtual sessions.

To all First Quarter entrants to Writers of the Future,

I wanted to let you all know that the Writers of the Future Contest will have a panel at what is probably my favorite Con to attend annually, but this year it is virtual for obvious reasons. The reason I say "my favorite" is because it is all about writing, and how to write better. There are usually around 2,000 attendees every year but it is all about writing, and also art but related to art in publications.

To find out more about the Convention visit http://www.ltue.net and see one of our judges, Brandon Sanderson tell you about this small but miighty Con in the foothills near Salt Lake City.

Several of our judges have attended in the past because of its unique focus on writing. The Con is thrilled to have a Writers of the Future panel, which will be held at noon (Mountain Standard Time) this coming Saturday the 13th.

The Con, however starts on Thursday the 11th and goes through to the end of Saturday night, the 13th.

I invite you all to attend. it costs $42.00 and it is worth it.

I hope to see you there. Our panel will be live as well, so you can chime in and talk to us! I hope you do!

to register go to:

Best,

Joni Labaqui

Thanks for posting the invite to the WotF panel and the LTUE online convention, Storysinger. It’s a rare opportunity to learn from these speakers without the expenses involved to travel.

Cheers!

In 2015, I received results on January 28th, so even without a delayed anthology/gala, there's no predicting it! Aside from one outlier, my longest Q1 results arrived on April 26th (in 2016).

Sadly, a lot of technical issues during the WotF panel at LTUE. Still, I've gotten a lot from the conference and appreciate the notice on here. I got to ask about what I think is still a statistically higher occurrence of contemporary or urban fantasy to traditional or sword and sorcery. Their advice, write what you love and write it well. Pretty much what you all advised.

I'd love to be in a group, but I've always felt like I'd be the weakest link, so I eliminate myself before I join. 🙁

Well first, I agree with Dragonchef, and second, I completely understand. I think that's why it helps to find a group of similar-leveled writers. You want to learn and teach and feel comfortable. Then everyone grows together.

And if it helps, at first I was super nervous to share my work with them, and only let like 2 of them see my story. Now, I openly share with the whole group stories I wrote years ago and are really green (aka BAD!!) Lol!

You get more comfortable with your group the more you share and build trust Smile

Alicia: Does your group have size limits?

I believe my online Writers Ring was formed with the idea of inviting specific people. Those people joined, and then we closed the group.

There are 7 of us in total, and unlike the in-person group I was part of, there are less stringent rules regarding participation. My in-person group had more rules, but we also only met once a month, so we needed those rules.

Does that help DC?

I should have elaborated.
I was referring to participation.

It's a quandary. Am I not productive because I have no commitments, or would I default on my commitments because I'm not productive?

Got an email asking about my Silver certificate from Q4. My brain ignored the Q4 part, and I thought we had results back for Q1. Last night, I was positive I was getting an R after I mentally reduced my story down and couldn't see what I had been thinking about it before.

I confess, I opened up my email, saw the 'galaxyexpress' message, and my heart did a little stutter-stop until I saw that Joni was just asking after the SHM certificates.

Anyone else ever wonder if the Spanish Inquisition used these kind of wait times as one of their torture devices? 'Cause it's really working well on me right now.  giggle

YES!! Joni is on a torture roll with all the emails she's been sending out the last few weeks that very much AREN'T results for the quarter... I guess this builds character...?  laughing

I was just looking at my past Q1 subs, and I've gotten results on April 16, April 18, April 21, and April 26. That's a much tighter range of dates than I was expecting (the other quarters have been much more volatile). Though with the gala in October this year, I wonder if this quarter might be earlier/later than usual.

Just spitballing here, but if it takes more than a quarter to judge the contest, won't that eventually lead to necessitating the elimination of a quarter? I'm not saying it will take longer than a quarter, or whining about the time, I'm just testing an observation.

How long it takes depends on the time of year and what other obligations the judges have.

Last Q4 was like five minutes, so he/they seem to make up for any shortfall by cranking Q4.
Q1 has extra time because there are 3 more quarters behind it. And it's usually delayed by the workshop.
This year is a wildcard.

Joni mentioned something about sending digitals out for the last quarter, but I haven't heard back from her in like a week. Has anyone gotten an email from her with a scan of their HM/SHM/Etc?

Should we be expecting results for this quarter? It feels like ages since I submitted for it. I just submitted for the next quarter yesterday.
