@thekingsguard I hope that’s the case! How exciting! I wonder if all the calls go out on the same day?

From my understanding, this is the case, and part of the reason for the secrecy, so everyone can know together and no spoilers, etc.

 

There have been cases where the announcement was delayed because they had difficulty reaching a Finalist.

@martin-l-shoemaker I thought is was because you were waiting for placement 123. I was hoping today would be thursday.

@craydimensional I am also hoping today is Thursday. Maybe tomorrow on actual Thursday we’ll get the news.

@martin-l-shoemaker thanks for the info! Yeah, I was kinda hoping all the phone calls weren’t done yet because I haven’t gotten one ? Now I’m just awaiting further placement results! And I have no idea when illustrator results go out in relation to writers so I’m on edge over that one too!

I still get far too many spam calls.

My extra fun this last week has been discovering that I have somehow suddenly become the wrong number for some company called supreme services. So that's been a delight, and clearly quite immaculate timing.

There are no telemarketing calls in NZ. Zero. .. But about twice a year I'll get a fraud call from overseas where someone claims to be calling from my computer company with an urgent remote patch they need to make to my computer.   ... Yeah, right.

@henckel when I was a kid the telephone line got crossed, so both our phone and another guys phone both got the same call. The other guy got a call from his girl friend, and us girls answered. The girlfriend was really upset when the guy picked up his phone.

It's definitely at that point where I'm not sure if I should be checking my phone every few minutes, or my email, so I'm constantly doing an unhealthy amount of both. 

I'm just hoping to finally break the SHM barrier this quarter. I finally got off my duff to take the WotF online course; my stories definitely feel like they've come together a lot better since then, but only time will tell if that translates into higher placement yet.  Fingers crossed!

That happened my last quarter. One guy was backpacking in the Alps or something.

Read a book titled “Sin and Syntax.” it’s very interesting. But you’ve probably read it already.

I saw one member who "thought" he had a missed call. I've not seen any announcements yet. I believe those who are called as finalists are asked not to reveal.

The markets I send to nearly all require NO simultaneous submissions. It's a requirements, but also a courtesy to the editors. What would I do if (wonder of wonders) two editors decided to buy my story at the same time? ("uhhh … sorry?") WotF can lead to publication, so subbing a story to a magazine in parallel would be a simultaneous submission.

It's been a long week of actively working on an assortment of projects to avoid twitching. Yesterday being Thursday was especially long... Anyway, I'm going out for supplies and leaving my phone behind. I'm looking forward to seeing the results for everyone who posts in the forum.

Having 2 new categories adds to the anticipation.

I'm in Michigan and the grey, wet weather is adding to my melancholy.  Taking @wulfmoon 's advice to write a new story for each quarter submission.  I am still working on my horror novel (70k words done after trimming the fat from it), slow and steady, but needed something to kickstart my mind.  For this short story, I tried something different.  I have the opening sentence and the words <THE END> and then let the characters fill themselves in and write the story for me.  I like this approach because I get to see how the story goes as I’m writing it.  Maybe something good, maybe something bad…we shall see. 

@toddjones  sounds like a fun technique!

Indeed, of course I have. You are correct. That's why I used the wording "nearly" all.

I was writing concerning my own personal ethics. I just don't do it, to keep my own side of the street squeaky clean.

Got my tent, latte, and computer. Hopefully the results will come soon.
