I got an HM. First ever. When I saw the email I was like...wait a minute...that can't be right, 'cause I suck. Right? Everyone knows I suck. I mean, *I* know I suck, and that's basically everyone. So what's with these "judges" saying I don't suck? I don't know how to process this!
Anyway, I can resubmit an HM, right? I REALLY like this story and there's definitely room for improvement in it.
Grats!!!
I remember that same feeling. A professional writer, with actual books on the market, in bookstores 'n stuff, read my lil story and said it's good? Wha?
But keep in mind it's a story to story basis. YOU don't suck, ever. Even Rs don't mean stories suck. I've read plenty of great stories that didn't fit *this* market. I've seen stories sell pro at other markets. Straight R here, $0.08 a word there.
So totally reply to Joni and get that certificate in the mail and hang that sucker up. I look at my first one all the time.
Here's hoping we'll eventually have to build a shelf to hold the (from what I hear) very heavy trophy!
p.s. yes, you can re-sub an HM, but I personally recommend writing a few new ones first, then revisit with fresh and more experienced eyes to see if you want to revise - or keep writing new...

Wow.
Congratulations to everyone and commiserations to anyone who is disappointed. I understand that feeling in the bottom of my soul. Keep writing, and as a dear friend recently told me, BELIEVE in yourself and your goals.
Way awesome.
Is your story available to read somewhere?
Do you have your critique already or does that come later?

RE-RE-REJECTED!
Ok, so I've only been writing fiction again since, oh, less than a year. I've always been an extrovert and I donhaveta tell YOUSE how solitary the pursuit can be -but the pandemic kept me home, so...
Here's my practice:
Within 24 hours of receiving any rejection, I review, correct any small flaws, and turn the story around and submit elsewhere
I find this fun, like a game. When I get a rejection, something in me goes "oh goody!"
After four rejections on the same tale (haven't got there yet) I plan to start submitting to non-paying markets, for the byline merely
I guess I kind of got this system from the arduous process of job hunting. I learned, doing that: If it's not fun, it won't get done!
GAMIFICATION, ya'all!
Congrats to all that got anything better than the R I received.
Now let's get to creating the winning stories for the next quarter.

I can't speak for story availability (although I'd expect Becky will wait for her crit and then send her story to other markets). I can, however, speak from experience on the crit situation! It could take anywhere from a few weeks to a couple months for Becky to get her crit. (I don't remember how long it took me to get mine, exactly, but I do remember it was longer than I expected.)

Thanks DP. Yeah the story wouldn't be available to read as that would make it impossible for me to try to find a paying home for it. I am hoping I don't have to wait too long, I am eager to read what Dave has to say. I know Wulf has credited his SF crit for a sale!

Dear Writer,
Congratulations! Your story has been judged and is an Honorable Mention for the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest 2nd quarter (entries received between January and March.
For a first time entry, that's an amazing win, Kizernix. Bask in the glow and congratulations!

HM for me as well. Not the first one, but I think Dave mentioned my story in his Monday article. Both an ouch and a learning experience, but I already suspected I should have trimmed more. Apparently it needed more than trimming. Wish I understand what, because I thought it had what the article suggested. I realize my story may be one of hundreds that resemble his remarks, but still. . . beginning to feel either stooopid or at least irredeemably ignorant.

You read one of mine, I don't recall which. LOL And it did get an HM, so I can't say you were off. Just that there were better stories neither of us have read. And your critique was really helpful, so without it, I might not have got the HM. I just hope I can get to the next level soon.

YEAH!!! So many placed in Q2!!!
A special CONGRATS to Becky!!!
R for me - But that was no surprise.
It was not a WotF story, but I had it, liked it, and didn't want to go without submitting while I edited the novel. Last Quarter, I didn't even make that. Hopefully, edits will be done in the next month then I can get back into the WotF game with more focus.
But CONGRATS again to all of you who placed and keep writing to ALL!!!

Big R for me. Congrats to everyone that placed!
