Just submitted for Q2 Volume 37. I worked very hard on this story. My editor looked at it twice for me and I did revisions both times.
It came to 5,700 words.

How does Joni keep all these quarters straight? My head is spinning right now. Waiting for results for Q1 Volume 37 and now Q2 Volume 37.
And also waiting for the Awards Ceremony for Volume 36. I plan to watch it on my computer.

Vol. 36: 3rd -- R, 4th -- R
Vol. 37: R, HM, HM, SHM
Vol. 38: HM, HM, HM, HM
Vol. 39: SHM, RWC, RWC, HM
Vol. 40: HM, R, RWC, R
Vol. 41: R, HM, HM, HM
Vol. 42: R, RWC, RWC, 4th qtr. Pending

Amateur published stories:

"The Tell-Tale Cricket" in The Murderbugs Anthololgy

"Eyes and Hands" in Galaxy's Edge Magazine
"The Last Dance" in Parliament of Wizards, LTUE anthology

Good luck! Glad to hear you made it in.

They probably have a system in place to simplify things (if nothing else, having a different folder for the documents received each quarter would make sense).

Waiting for results from two quarters in a row is especially common this time of year. Less so for Q3 and Q4 (although Q4 is the only one guaranteed to have a fast push for results, because they need to get things finalized so they can put the book together).

I've mulled over a number of ideas. I've mapped out stories for two - then abandoned each after they didn't feel right for WotF once I started writing. But that's ok - because I have to have at least 3 Try/Fail attempts, yeah?

I like to sit on my submissions, even after they're completed.
I find that not looking at them for a moth and then doing a final read through a few days before the deadline always had a couple details jump out at me.

...or maybe I just have a fear of commitment. wotf017

I think that sounds smart. They say to do the same thing with novels. It's good to get some distance and perspective.

Finally managed to get my story in semi-decent shape for a first draft. It's still got a ways to go, but I think it's on the right track...

Thanks to Crystal, I have renewed confidence in a story I'd started / stopped / started / stopped - couldn't let go and couldn't continue.

Yeah, you all who have already submitted have my respect. I'll work until the last second. That said, I've got a 14k story that I need a fresh pair of eyes on. I'm happy to critique any length of story you've got.

I offered yesterday, but changed my mind when I saw that you're an editor. Can't imagine I can help much - but I'll try / give reader reactions or whatever if you're stuck for someone.

I've been prepping a novella manuscript over the last two months that I'm going to pitch at a writer's conference this weekend, and am just now finding time to edit a short story I wrote back in December to submit before the Q2 deadline. I'm super excited Smile

Henckel and SwiftPotato have great points. And remember--you can always edit, and you can always ask for critiques if you feel like an outside opinion might help to improve the story.

I'm in for Q2 - we decided to move a month earlier and I will be very busy over the coming weeks so I decided to just get it sent in. I am still available for critiques, but the closer we get to the end of the month, I may have to say no to longer pieces. Good luck everyone!

Good to see you guys getting your stories in. Don't get distracted, gang. Only a little over two weeks left of this quarter! That's still enough time to write your winner from scratch!

Took me a while to land on the right idea, and then a while to figure out where to start the story. I think I have it, now. All that's left is to finish the dang thing and get it in. Smile Yes, I know, COVID opportunity - but I am working from home and have a 3rd grader to help through each day, so we'll see. I can't complain - I know plenty of people with harder situations. Plus, you know, just got that silver certif in the mail from 4th quarter last year. So that's nice motivation. wotf031
