SHM for me! I'm genuinely shocked, because I recently watched an interview where Dave Farland says he like the main characters to be introduced by page 2 and I didn't get to mine until page 5. I've sinced cut the flab from my intro, and now that I know I'm on the right track, I'm considering trying my luck and re-submitting the story. Is this bad taste?
As it is, I feel like I'm on top of the world

Congratulations, Subs-Bubs! Silver HM can even have ranked higher than Semifinalist, believe it or not. That's because you get a critique with a Semifinalist, which would give it an unfair advantage, so you're not allowed to submit them again. Dave has said he will often give a story he wants to see again a Silver so it might return to him in another quarter. It may be Dave had too many of the same type, and in another quarter, he'd love to pick that story back up. So you have every reason to be on top of the world, and yes, Silvers may well be worth sending back in.
Well done!

SHM for me! It's my first, so I'm pretty stoked about it. Good luck to everyone who is still twitching.
BTW, how do I add the awesome "I got a.." emoji?
Sweet, patezell! That was your very first contest entry, correct?

I've never gotten to use this before. So stoked. I expected to do poorly because I knew I was breaking a "rule" with POV. And maybe that's why it's Semi-Finalist, but I'm still rather thrilled. Write on, write on, write on!

Got a rejection this time around, which I'll admit I was surprised at. But either way, I'll use this to push myself to get better and work on and submit something even stronger in Q4 now that my Q3 is already in.

I'm pretty excited about getting an HM. This was my first short story ever, written as I took the WotF Workshop last quarter. After submission, I found the forum and Wulf's Super Secrets thread and realized that my Q2 broke some rules and was missing a few key elements, so I was nervous about it getting rejected. Yay!
I'm still committed to writing new for the rest of this year, but now I'm sorely tempted to work this one up as a re-submission for next year. Perhaps I'll just keep it in my back pocket for now. Time to focus on Q3. Four days left.
Write on!

"The Rise and Fall of Frankie's Patisserie" in Murderbugs anthology
"Felix and the Flamingo" in Escape Pod
"The Devil's Foot Locker" in Amazing Stories
Congrats everyone on your results! I especially appreciate those who have that long list of Rs and HMs who are now breaking into the SHM and even SF and F. It's great to see how hard work and perseverance are paying off!
Thanks everyone for the encouragement this quarter! This is a fantastic place to learn, grow, and hone our craft - as these results show.
Good luck on Q3!

Wow - tremendous results everyone! And I loved the encouragement to those who got rejections as well, in the fact that they are submitting. I was listening to the WotF podcast today with Scot Noel, discussing rejections (from publishers in general) and how rejections don't always mean they didn't like your story or that your writing isn't good.
Q2 is my first HM, which I'm pleased with. It's also the first time I made some significant changes to the formatting.
Hoping to get a few more results like this in future. Gotta keep working hard, though!

Not my first-ever entry, Wulf, but it is my first silver.
I think my prior record is 2 Rs, 3 HMs, spread over a murky span of intermittent entries. Your secrets have taught me a lot, especially the importance of persistence. Must. Keep. Writing.
Thank you!

@subs_bubs If you got an SHM and the main character didn't show up until page 5 and you've trimmed it up, I'd say a resub is a decent idea. I can't make any guarantees, of course, but it's definitely worth a try.

Thanks for the lesson! And, while I'm at it, I want to tell you how much I loved Ashwright. Awesome story, and that you created such an original idea in a traditional fantasy setting is rarely managed. If we had a hat-tipping emoji, I'd insert it here.

Awesome work, @babooher! The great thing about SF is you'll get to know exactly what made or broke it for Dave (and, after my last SF, I can safely say that those details can be fairly small at this stage--top 16 is nothing to sneeze at).
