I have a story to send in ready to go, figured I better do it now, since I have been forgetting. Can't sign in to send in the story though. Tried various fixes but kept getting the same error message for my E-mail address. Finally I requested tech help. Come to think of it maybe I should have sent the request to Joni.

I sent you an email directly on this. Let me know if that worked. Best, Jason

Well, I'm officially in for Q2. Cutting it a little close this quarter, but school and work have been kicking my rear the past couple months. Time to think up some ideas for Q3. I wanna go with something a little fresh next quarter and see if I can't push my boundaries.

On the bright side, I officially got word yesterday that my graduate portfolio passed faculty review. I'm clear for graduation in May!

My Quarter 2 is officially submitted now! I gave my writing group a couple days for critique and made a few edits. Now to see if I can finish my current illustration to submit. Or I'll just submit the other one I did this quarter and have this one for quarter 3.

I subbed my Q2 to WotF last night. Finished going over it after my last Beta reader gave their comments. For many, subbing now is still cutting it close. For me, I still have like 3 days! This is early!

Ha, ha.
Best of luck to all.  Smile

Good luck to you also! ? I've subbed in the first hours and the last hours of a quarter--though I think the closest I've run it is four hours from the deadline (not nearly so snug as Wulf, as I have a cultivated mistrust of technology, and firmly expect it all to explode if I leave it right up to the fading minutes).

It's nice to be done and in the mix!

I haven't submitted yet, but I'm not going to do any more writing.  I've taken a previous rejection that was 6500 words and cut it down to 5400 using my hopefully-improved skill set and the 10% Solution.  A previous critique had proclaimed the story bloated, and while I didn't have time to fully address that at the time I have since.

There was a contest I wanted to enter that had a 5000-word limit, so I took out a 600-word additional complication near the finish that made me chuckle but might not have advanced the story to qualify.  Now having received my rejection from that contest I'm trying to decide which version to submit to WOTF.

I'm not planning to ask for any additional critiques because I'm at the point where even if I received incredible advice, my gut is in complete rebellion against the idea of any more modifications.  I'm pleased with the story, and I am done.  The next few days are just to decide whether it's worth including something that amuses me or if in reality, it's a KYD situation.

I think this is a good approach to take. My Q3 is going to be the same--a story that went through a series of edits, so that it's now 1/3 shorter than its original version. Some of those cuts were really painful to make, but I think this version is the best one, when all's said and done.

Amazing how that works. You can look at some of those story parts that used to be there, knowing how much they meant to you. We will always remember them. Lol

Then looking at the edited story we can recognize how much better it reads now.

Hi! I'm new. Also dumb, with questions.

Hypothetically, if one was to submit their file and days later realize that the first page was lacking a needed page number, and one wished to replace their erroneous, embarrassing, rule-breaking file with a much better file - is that possible? Hypothetically, of course.

And, if not - if one's missing first page number was destined to remain missing, incontrovertible, frozen in time within that ill-fated document - would an instant R be the expected result? How pedantic are we feeling these days? (Hypothetically.)

Thanks, and also I'm new. 😉

Hi, Chris! Welcome to the Forum!

I'm not clear on your question. The first page of a manuscript doesn't get a page number--subsequent pages do. Here's Shunn's Modern Manuscript Format for you to review on how to set up your manuscript's first page. Modern Manuscript Format | William Shunn

As to whether you can retrieve a manuscript and submit a new file before the quarter closes, I don't have the answer, as I haven't submitted under this updated Wizehive system. I'm sure someone else that has will weigh in soon. @jason is the official Author Services tech to ask. You can message him here if you don't get the answer you need soon.

Best of success!

Moon

@wulfmoon

Hi Wulf,

Thanks for the response!

I am indeed familiar with Shunn's Modern Manuscript format, which I've used for my submission. A page number on the very first page seems silly, yes, but I was having a conversation with someone on Scrib about their entry and they seemed to think that EVERY page (incl. the first) needed to be numbered because of the following language in the Writer Contest Rules:

> Entries submitted electronically must be double-spaced and must include the title and page number on each page, but not the author’s name. [emphasis mine]

It seems from your reply that a number 1 on the first page isn't really required or a big deal - I appreciate you confirming that.

No, it's not required on the first page. You are good to go!

@clemenstation And even if "standard" formatting wanted a page number on the first page (Wulf is right, you're good), that isn't enough to get a piece rejected. Formatting matters and is a mark of professionalism, but a few slips are not going to get your story rejected ... (unless you used WingDings!)

Whoo-hoo! Submitted for quarter 2!

This may be the earliest I've ever actually gotten my sub in. Yes, it's still the final day of the quarter, but this time I'm not frantically asking 'what time is it in California?!' every few minutes.

Feels nice, it does!
