Did you email your entry in with the subject BFAA SUBMISSION: {story name}?

I ask, because I submitted that way in April, but never received an entry confirmation.  I sent a "BFAA QUESTION" email subject in May to make sure they received it, but never received a response. 

I'm just checking to see if others received a confirmation and/or rejection email.  I may need to start using a different email if others received emails and I didn't.

I just received a response to my question from BFAA. They do not send out received or rejections emails. They did confirm, since finalists have been posted, that they received my submission. 

Anyone hear about the The Mike Resnick Memorial Award winners yet?  Those were submitted through Moksha.

My submission still has a status of "in progress" 

@toddjones Finalists for Resnick will be announced July 20 now. It’s been postponed.

To be clear: I don't know. I just was fairly sure there would be no calls on the Fourth. But I've seen no one hinting about calls. If you're looking for hope, that's a glimmer.

Maybe a prior Finalist can answer this one, but don't calls from Joni come in labeled "Hollywood, CA"? Also, if you don't answer, she'll leave a voicemail message. That's what I've heard anyway. Can anyone verify?

@morgan-broadhead my finalist call (for Illustrators), came from an LA area code (323) and she will leave a voicemail if she can... Though even though it's 2023 apparently voicemail inboxes can get full and prevent her from leaving a message... Don't ask how I know, just empty your voicemail inbox! And don't fret, even if you're as dumb as me, she'll send an email. Beyond being super kind, she's also super persistent!

When Joni calls finalists it comes from an unknown/private number.

This last time, she and I were going back and forth on e-mail, and we had spoken a few times about a project, so when I saw the unknown/private number, I knew it was her, but figured she just grabbed "the finalist phone" because it was closest or something. We chatted about our project for a few minutes, then she says, "Oh by the way, you're a finalist!"

So even though we had something else going on, she still used that "phone". Or hit whatever *6 thing to make it private.

It's great how times change. I remember when we used to submit to Penumbra and wait for our rejections. 

Now you have transcended all of that. You won. Of course you miss the grind of trying to win. I hope to attain that level of success some day.

...usually. When I got my Finalist call, it came from an LA area code, rather than unknown/private. But consensus suggests I'm in the minority.

Addendum: really makes LA-area spam calls a delight, doesn't it?
