Good luck everyone. I had high hopes this time, but I'm always grateful for a certificate.

This was my first time entering, and I received an Honorable Mention, which I'm pleased about. (I'm not quite sure how to interpret an HM, but I'm taking it as "not bad, your writing is not as awful you fear in your darkest moments, keep trying!")

Well, I bumped my story up from flat rejection to honorable mention. And I have an idea for why it didn't go higher. So I will probably edit before submitting it again.

I interpret it as you're in the top 10% of submissions, which is pretty good for a first submission.

An Honorable Mention means roughly top 10%. It means Jody found it good enough to finish, but with some problems in her opinion. It's really a good sign!

I had hoped this one would go further, but given my prior stories were an R and an RWC, my hopes were clearly outstripping my skills. Congrats everyone, wherever you place.

Congrats to all who are acknowledged (by certificate or winning) and also those who had the courage to just enter the contest. If your hopes have been dashed, dust yourself off (indulge in a cookie/candy/treat or two) and start working on the next deadline.
And I will continue to enter and strive for getting one of those elusive winning spots. Onward!!

Suspected an rwc since I submitted it because the spec aspect comes in so late, so I’m delightfully surprised! I may be reworking this one in the future ?. Congrats to everyone who placed!!!

Congratulations to all who received Honorable Mentions and Silver Honorable Mentions. As a novice, I'm beginning to appreciate just how much work is required to attain those heights.
Can any of you discuss the method by which you were notified? Is the procedure the same for all categories? Asking for a friend.

I think we all hope our stories will go further/all the way, but you've got to take a moment to smell the roses!
HM is the top ten percent and many people give up before ever making it. To skip that and go straight to SHM (which personally took me five consecutive HMs to reach) is phenomenal.
Huge kudos to you and the other SHMs, a standing ovation to all the HMs, and a defiantly proud applause to all the Rs and RWCs - it's been said before but can't be said enough: just finishing a story is a huge achievement and submitting it is tenfold more difficult.

I'm joining the crowd, throng, flock of us forumites who wrote better than 90% of the entrants did, but still wish had gotten something higher.
At least I know I'm a solid writer, getting HMs with every entry. Now I just need to notch it up to being a spectacular writer!

Finalists (and eventually winners) get a phone call if Joni can get through, voice mail if she can't, email as a last resort. Everybody else gets email. I think HM, SHM, and SF usually go out before R; but it has been nearly 9 years for me, so I'm a little fuzzy on details.
