Congrats to everyone who got an HM or above!

First R for me, but then again, this was my first submission and I knew pretty soon after finding this forum that my first try was going to be way off so I’m not worried.
I’m just gonna keep writing!

I missed the deadline for Q4 for a new short story I’ve been working on but it still needed some polishing and editing so I refrained from submitting even though I probably should have...
I am eagerly cleaning it up though and preparing to submit it for Q1 Volume 38 (plan to submit by the end of October to keep myself honest and then work towards the project for Q2!

Also working through the online workshop and already have several fun ideas in mind for future short stories.

Got an R :/ sad because I thought this was my best yet yet. But I did realize that the first couple pages are a little weak. So could have been rejected there. Gonna go see what I can do about it... Then maybe I'll resubmit. Never done that but I really don't think it was read past the beginning.

Huge congrats to everyone who entered! Yay on those HMs! Fantastic job on those SHMs!

Got my second HM. Well done everyone! Quick question: I'm new here, how does one go about giving yourself a custom signature on the forums? Thanks!

If you really like to write don’t call it quits. If you want I can try to help you. Or you can look into Wulf Moon’s writing advice forum thread. I don’t follow it myself but I think it’s designed specifically with the contest in mind.

SHM, which makes three in a row now.

Steady on, until up.
I'd say that's a good sign. SHM is early / mid finalist pile.

So I’ve been told.

Though I submit to the contest, I’m not writing for it. I write for me and my sanity, writing the way I want regardless of judges and editors. And I know people might say that a writer should tailor his stories to the audience but in order to have kept going these past 17 years I’ve had to make my writing about my personal enjoyment.

Sentences and paragraphs are what it’s about for me.

Congrats!

Click on your name in the upper right, a drop down menu should appear. Click on user control panel. After that a firewall may pop up, I think this is to prevent bots. Click proceed. Then click "profile" and "edit signature". This is on mobile so hopefully works for you.

Sure, I'd be happy to pass it over for you to take a look at. 🙂 I subbed it out elsewhere this morning after receiving the result, but I'll send a copy your way shortly.

I've either got an SHM or an HM--not sure which, because I got two e-mails this quarter. O_o I've e-mailed Joni in an effort to clear things up.

Great job, everyone. We only call it an R here on the Forum. In the contest, it is a DNP (Did Not Place). In life, it is a try...congratulations. You did something, perhaps out of your comfort zone, that many others think of doing but never attempt. Study, read, and try again because you are in the same place that I have been for nine years and now twenty-nine entries. I've had what we call success around here (HM=11, SHM=1). You will get there, too.

It is my wish for everyone to fully examine themselves and their work. Get real opinions from trusted peers and professionals. Figure out what work you need to do to accomplish the goals you have set for yourself. And then, do that work. Follow through. Believe me, you will get there if you do the work.

And, with every entry to this contest or to the next market, remember to congratulate yourself. You are trying. You will achieve. Best of luck.

For me, lucky 13. I received my first Finalist!

First R in a while, though I'm very sporadic in entering to the contest. I thought it was a great story, though wasn't sure if it was a WOTF story. Guess it wasn't. At something around 1400 words (if memory serves) it was really short, too, so that was a risk.

Grats on your finalist, kentagions!

SHM for me. Nice after taking a break from short stories for a while. Just checking in to thank those who kindly beta'd my work, despite me not having been active on this forum for a few years. It was great of you to take a look. Hope you did well too!

Grats to all on your HMs' and more. To those getting R's, good on you for entering and better luck next time. To the finalists: I don't envy you the wait 😀 But good luck!

Don't call it quits! You can do it!!!!

I'll keep going. Just takes some time to bounce back. I will put more effort in getting some crits and evaluating what works and what doesn't.

There are some some old HM stories I have that have gathered some dust. Think it will be worth trying them out again. Dustin mentioned a 450 group, so I will check it out.

After nothing but HMs, I got my first R this quarter. I kinda suspected that it'd get an R as it was a superhero story more than fantasy or sci-fi which I guess isn't really what this contest is after. Still, glad I took a risk and wrote this story that had been bubbling in me for a while.
