I jest, but I'm pleased, given after you find out didn't win you've got nowhere to go but up.

I don't feel as if my Q4 is as strong, but time will tell.

Like, not much time... but time.

And is Yelena Crane our Scribblesatdusk? I just checked all my e-mail correspondence(s) with her, and no last name. So maybe she's just ... Yelena ...

And yes, I do believe that @scribblesatdusk made finalist, though it's always possible that there is more than one Yelena Crane of Pennsylvania. Who entered Writers of the Future. And is an awesome writer.

Yeah, we've been sitting on the blog page, hitting refresh every couple of minutes since we woke up. Or was that just me?  

Finally broke my drought!

Aaaaaaand the result makes it my second R for WotF. Not surprised, been rejection season for me all of 2021. Oh, well. I write on, what else is there to do?

@jason I really like the list a lot! It's so much fun to find my friends and see how they did. Thank you for putting it up

Our Forumites made a great showing in Q3!

I am that Yelena Crane. My experience (even same days) is like Becky’s. It’s been hard seeing all the suffering for results in here even as I knew mine and had to keep mum. 

I was very shocked about the finalist. Shocked and terrified because surely it’s a fluke and I’ll never be able to top this. 

A big thank you to DoctorJest who saw huge flaws in my story and whose critique made me make changes. To Dustin for helping with my first 1000 (and everyone in the 450 group). To Ania, my wonderful writing partner.

Congratulations to all who submitted for q3, regardless of result! 

I'm so happy! There was no way this story was going to place any higher, but I've been really hoping to get an HM at some point. The higher certs are super exciting, but I still have a hard time believing they're not just flukes--bridging the divide feels surprisingly validating.

As always, I love seeing all of your results come in, too. This forum continues to have an amazing group of hard working and talented writers, and every one of you has my respect just for submitting!

And, of course, an extra huge congratulations goes to all of the finalists and winner! It's been well-earned. Super happy for you!   

Now to settle in for the long wait before next quarter's results--wait, what was that? Really? Uh... See you all again soon, haha!

I'm pleasantly surprised! The story was as good as I could get it at the time, but I knew it had developmental issues when I submitted.

I'm so proud of everyone who entered. It takes guts to put yourself out there, so that's a victory in and of itself. Congrats to the winners! I can't wait to read your stories someday.

Unless they mistyped my name on the blog I got a straight rejection, which is what I was expecting if I'm honest. I have higher hopes for Q4.

Not a fluke, Yelena. Not at the finalist level. You've worked hard and hit the target. That's a professional level story right there. Congratulations!

This was my first time submitting to this contest, so it's a lot of feelings but I've decided to be proud of myself.

We are very proud of you and Becky! It is no fluke to reach the level of Finalist. Thousands from around the world compete to get there each quarter, and only superlative stories get selected for that honor. It means NYT bestselling author David Farland felt your story was worthy to be in the anthology he edits. And as you just saw with Brittany and others, sometimes he will pull them back into the anthology because he believes so much in them. You both wrote a winning story.

And that means you can do it again!

Keep persevering. There is a good reward for all those that do. ?

SHM for me. I really believe in this story but I probably won't try it again. It gathered two Rs before this and then I fixed the opening. (my charterer's problem wasn't clearly laid out) A lesson. As Wulf says "nail the opening."

I can't think of any way to improve it so I move on.

I got my very first WoTF certificate!

Definitely wasn't expecting to score a SHM, but I'll take it. This is my highest placing in the contest so far. Things can only get better as I hone my craft. Congrats to everyone who placed, and especially to the winners. Good job, everyone!

Alas, I thought this story was better than my HM.  Hopefully, my upcoming Q4 result will pick me up, but either way, I'll keep trying.  It was a lot of fun to scroll through the blog and see how well everyone from the forum did.  Too bad we didn't have those few days to root for the forum finalists while their fates were being decided.

Ah, but you figured out why it was getting rejected, Chuck! And you fixed the issue, as proven by the third time when Kary didn’t reject it, but passed it up to Dave, and he felt it was written well and gave you a top honor—Silver! That’s valuable knowledge! May it serve you well with your next entry!
