JV Ashley, you're welcome.

I didn't know you were writing a novel. You might want to scope out THE FIRST FIFTY PAGES by Jeff Gerke. It's on Amazon.

As far as music listening appreciation, if you write fantasy, you might check out SLEEPSONG - Lullaby from a Secret Garden, and fantasy/horror, I'd suggest COME, LITTLE CHILDREN. Both are easily found on You Tube.

Best of luck with the novel and your Q4.

Thank You Retro!
I've bookmarked those to listen to while editing tomorrow--after jury duty. I'm printing out a edits I made today on my Q4 to do line edits while I wait through the jury selection process. Just doing my civic duty--and my WotF duty--at the same time.

Sweet ... I have a serious problem with the start of my current serial novel (but not sure what the issue is or how to fix it)... this might help to iron it out ty Smile

Hey, speaking of serial novels, I'm listening to "Galaxy Outlaws: The Complete Black Ocean Mobius" on Audible. I got this to help with my ongoing Firefly withdraw.

...and and wow, these book do the trick.

They don't have any sort of deep and meaningful messages. They don't move my in any sort of spiritual way.... they're just flat-out fun and exactly what I was looking for.

totally worth it. The first "episode" isn't all that, but does a good job of setting the stage for moving the series forward. From there, each one just gets better and better.

My story is done, but I'm tinkering with the language choices in a couple of places to tighten the thematic points. I was tempted to submit already, but resisted the urge to do so until I've finished this pass properly, so more likely to submit early next week.

I'm in about the same place. I feel really good about this one, which is probably a dangerous place to be but I don't care. wotf008

I have the guilt of leaving my novel alone. I wanted it to be finished by the end of the summer, and I am only a little over halfway through with its edits.

Oh, do I know that feeling. Aside from procrastination and distraction by other projects, my issue is that at 60k words into the latest novel, one that I've been wanting to write for a while as the start of a new series that I've been pushing off for what feels like forever, I'm realizing I'm probably only a third of the way done. Which is what I thought at 40k words. So the end keeps moving further away, it seems.

Ugh.

Oh well.

Off to distract myself with this week's short story. wotf001

JV Ashley,

I think you addressed the post. I never posted anything about writing a novel, especially half-way.

You probably meant someone else. I only recently posted about Belgian dark chocolate.

Best,

Ah, I finally figured it out!

Michael thought your post was mine.

I still stand with THE FIRST FIFTY PAGES, however, to aid and assist in your novel creation.

And I'll always stand with Belgian dark chocolate.

Okay, mine is done. I will be sending it in tomorrow or Monday. Tomorrow will be a bit busy with a couple of different things to do. Ohhh, boy some major changes: rewrite first thousand words or so, changed sentences, deleted at least a 1500 words probably more like at least 1750, moved things around, added a few sentences.

I think it's better but wotf017 I thought it wasn't that bad to begin with. Thanks to two people here it has improved though. Not sure if I helped one of them that much with his story-not for WotF. Not much I found I could advise him on. I hope that was because it didn't need much except a little tweaking. Not the first time I critiqued a story and wasn't able to find many suggestions for changes. It was good already and, at least to my knowledge, didn't need more.

Anyway, we shall see.

And now to redoing, at least the opening, of a SF story about a chef. I need it for an anthology about speculative food, and to work on a short tale about an Apocalypse. Need to put some danger in it or effort of some type. Then I hope to write one about outdated tech that may or may not be working. None of these are contests but still I want to try them all.

So I thought I was done with my Q4 submission. But now I am four weeks in on Dave's Writing Enchanting Prose class and madly trying to apply what I have learned to my story. Just not enough time! Guess I will just have to submit it as is when the day comes and hope for the best like every other time.

I'm in! I was originally planning to wait until Sunday, but my husband read my story out loud to the babies and the energy was so infectious I did a few quick final edits and hurled it toward the portal at full speed.
