Thanks again! And that is a good point--it's only the first quarter of the year. We've got plenty of chances remaning to all meet at the workshop!

Hope you feel better, Scott!

I had a teenager face all though my twenties. I worked at a school, one time got in huge trouble for being in the hallway after the bell. I made good friends with that teacher after that, I think we were both a little embarrassed.

Thanks, Scott! Sorry to hear you're ill. Get better! We miss you!

And, Hey ... there's still plenty time for the rest of us to get there to shake yer hand there in person!

Just make sure when you do, you don't mention reaching out! (In case you've been too sick to tell, that's a reference to the Dave Wolverton thread.)

I also never pointed out that the bag of marshmallows she was snacking on were made with gelatin and gelatin had crushed up animal bones in it..... Evil Tina? Perhaps.

So, thinking about when when Martin and I were in the NNiNN pile - just the two of us, he was actually already in a different IAHN pile? (IAHN = I already have news) Sneaky!

I subbed on day 1 ... didn't make the finalists (this time around - congrats again to all the well-deserved winners wotf008 ) and have no idea how we went, so I'm looking forward to the next round when the rest of us all get notified.

Is it Thursday yet? It's been Thursday all day here - Winter Solstice, too.

I know I could still get an R, but as Martin used to say NNiNN wotf008

I hope he wins along with Tina and Marina, that way they can be our forum coaches for the rest of the year!

Edit: staring at this posts I have decided to change my name from David to Davin.

Anyone else notice ...
Marina Martin Tina - I could go on about the similarities that are mind boggling ...

I'm a bit late with this but my congrats to those who made it this far.

Especially to those on those forum. I recognized three or four names but I probably don't know them all.

Hey, Tina totally started this thread.

A sign?

*mad clattering sounds as everyone dashes to start their own future jibber jabber thread*

Edit: staring at this posts I have decided to change my name from David to Davin.

I am changing mine to Graymarintin. Who will also be the lead character in my new S&S story that I've just now thought of. I'm thinking a gray cloak and purple eyes, you know, for the purple martin part.

HEAR THAT EVERYONE: Write how you write. Don't try to "guess" what the judge wants. Tell the story, make sure you polish with all the things Dave is writing about in his Daily Kicks and you'll feel much better to have a story that is truly yours up on that list.

So I got Tina's "letter".... thanks for the invite, and for letting me know I'm a finalist! I confess I had no idea my story was still in the competition. Been very busy with a new job in Germany(I'm a video games developer by trade).

Good luck to my fellow finalists...

Thanks, David! I was utterly convinced you were being sneaky as well. Now I'm just confused why you're in NNiNN.

Yep. It's Thursday. Fingers crossed for a blog post.

Thanks, Chris, and welcome aboard! You really didn't know? Now I'm confused. We thought Joni had called all the Finalists on Saturday (or a couple of months earlier).

Thanks, David! I was utterly convinced you were being sneaky as well. Now I'm just confused why you're in NNiNN.

I never expected to be up with the finalists, and I'm thrilled that you are (and the others we've been mixing with Q1 and Q2/3) - my story was too short for a finalist and a modern fantasy.

I've been through a quarter before where I never received results, and if the same thing happens again, I'd be surprised - but if it did, I've already got my Q4 story that would be good to go!

I'm REALLY hoping that given that I submitted on day 1 of Q1, it would be good to get something, because it would mean that it came from KD and that would be so very very cool- I'm keeping my fingers crossed. She had to have read my piece, and given that my final reader said that they almost cried when they read my story, I'm hoping I captured the right amount of characterization in it to get an HM. wotf007

But who knows, it's almost Friday here, which means it will be Thursday where it counts soon enough ... but it might not be the right Thursday Smile

There have been a few quarters where one of the finalists didn't hear his/her status from Joni -- Adam Perin was serving overseas, IIRC, and didn't hear he was a *winner* until announcements were made. Also, IIRC, Nick Tchan heard about his first finalist placement from a source other than Joni. I imagine if she has too much difficulty contacting someone, she eventually decides to go ahead and announce.

Maybe it was the IKENWINS pile? (I know exciting news which i'm not sharing?)

David I hope you get some exciting news of your own soon - having a lost submission is one thing but having a lost submission in the longest quarter in history would be youchy!
