For reference. And no, I don't actually want to smack Steve with a shovel (or a cricket bat). That would be mean.

Gatorina. It has a certain ring to it.

Sadly, it rings a bit like a bad Sci-Fi Channel original movie...

Luckily I was done with my morning coffee.

Hmm, I must have missed that one. It sounds like that was just as well. wotf034 I should use this smiley more often, as I am always smiling.

Look at the pretty on Duotrope!!

wotf006 I found more pretty on Duotrope!

They do look nice. Epic quarter, guys. Very epic. I'm kinda convinced now that Martin and I will be fated to duel over the Gold award 😉

It will, in fact, be a four-way uh... duel.

A... quel?

(Apparently the etymology is from 'bellum' anyway, and only had to do with the current meaning and the word 'two' when silly medieval poets decided it should.)

Yeeeessss....all part of Evil Martin's plan.

AND Amanda too> I'm going to go hide now! Yikes! The board will turn into that scene on Life of Brian where they have all the shoe factions arguing over who's more right. People on my team will hold up a paper sub stamped 20 minutes before the deadline as a banner.

Thanks again, everyone! Mmm, feel the love!

I'm so glad the results came out yesterday. After today I'll be incommunicado for quite a while.

Third time apparently was a charm, though it's definitely been an emotional rollar coaster (lovingly illustrated below):

First finalist call: What? Say hu? OMG, I must be awesoooooooome!

First did-not-win-call: Oh. Guess I'm not that awesome. But hey, top 8! Can't be long before I'm published everywhere!

Second finalist call: Really? Ha, thought this story would be the one! I'm soooooo gonna win.

Second DNW call: My life is over. Must wallow in my sorrow. I'm never gonna pull this off. No, wait, just keep swimming, show them all!

Third finalist call: Yay! Oh, wait. I could lose. I'm so gonna lose. I've lost already and the other judges haven't even seen it yet.

Winning call: I lost, didn't I? What? I won? I won? I WON????????

Exhausting journey, but great.

I saw the news on Facebook so I'm late to the forum, but congratulations to Tina, Marina and Steve! And for those who didn't get it this time, a good bit of advice I was given is that it takes two things to succeed in writing: talent and persistence. You've demonstrated you've got talent, you just need to keep going at it. (Sounds kind of obvious I know, but thinking of it like this is helpful. Other factors like luck and so on crumble in the face of persistence.)

Will.

Holy cowbells!

Congratz to Tina and Marina!!!!!!!!! And of course, Steve. wotf009 What a way to GO! Ladies (and gent), I shall see you at the workshops: hot me up for ice breakers, and feel free to ask me anything about either side of the contest! Finally! After the long wait -- longer for some of you who have repeatedly been there than for others of us -- finally word of success!! Super-big congrats to Tina, Marina, and Steve! Can't wait to read those stories. And congrats to everyone who got good news and great accomplishments here this quarter. This is what it's all about!

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to you, Tina and Marina, and Steve! wotf010

And to the non-winning (this time) Finalists -- WINNING AWAITS!

Speaking as a Finalist-But-No-Joy TWICE before the third one brought me the whoo-weeee call -- I know how that feels -- but earning multiple Finalists is the strongest message the cosmos can hand ya that says "You got the skillz, the stories, and you're already a Winner except for the weird vagaries of Timing!"

Congratulations, Tina, Marina, and Steve. Smile You'll be in for a treat. I have a bit of a heads up on the hotel they're hoping to use next year and it'll be sweet if they get it. The V28 group probably remembers huffing and puffing down a few blocks from the hotel to the workshop (or maybe I was the only one running, afraid I'd be late to my panel wotf018), but the hotel they're hoping to use for the V29 year is closer and it's a bigger place.

OK, Congratulations Steve - but were are going to have to change your name. This as far too confusing for me. I keep thinking Ive won, and then I realise all the congratulations are for doppelganger Steve.

When I squint you guys do look alike.

I guess it would also be weird to dub you Steve One and Steve Two.

The other one can be Steve 2, but I've been here long enough not to be dubbed anything but "Steve".
